Chapter 1
Blair’s Perspective
For five long years, I have been Christian’s Luna.
Yet, despite the time that’s passed, he never officially marked me. He never sealed the mate bond that should have tied us together forever.
Every time I tried to bring it up, he’d just flash that easy smile and wave me off. “Blair, I’m swamped. Pack matters are piling up. What difference does sealing the mate bond really make?” he’d say, dismissing my feelings like they were nothing.
And I believed him. I always did. Until today.
Today, I saw it with my own eyes—Christian standing before the pack elders, sealing the mate bond…
With my twin sister, Carrie. The same Carrie who disappeared five years ago without a word.
A low, guttural growl erupted deep inside me, my wolf clawing at my chest as if trying to tear it apart.
Carrie’s eyes were rimmed with tears as she threw herself into Christian’s arms, clutching the bond-sealing contract tightly.
“Christian, it’s my fault… I left you at the altar…” Her voice trembled with guilt and pain. “I know you’re only agreeing because I have cancer. But I have to ask—after all these years, did you ever forget me? Did you ever truly fall in love with Blair?”
He was silent for what felt like an eternity.
I stood nearby, my nails digging so deep into my palms that blood began to trickle down my fingers. Even my wolf trembled in agony.
“No,” he said at last, his voice cold and hard like a biting winter wind. “Never.”
Carrie immediately burst into tears of joy. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him softly.
And Christian—his hand hovered for a moment, then settled firmly on her waist, deepening the kiss.
“No—!” My wolf roared in fury.
A violent storm surged through my veins, icy and wild. My fingertips went numb, my bones clenched so tightly I could feel claws threatening to burst through my skin.
But not one of them glanced my way. Not once.
Suddenly, a sharp car horn blared nearby, yanking me out of the nightmare.
Three sleek black Maybachs rolled up. Out stepped the three Alphas of the Bloodstone Pack—my brothers: Lysander, Orion, and Zayden.
“The bond-sealing’s done? Mate bond sealed?” Zayden clapped his hands, grinning. “Perfect. The restaurant’s booked. Let’s celebrate.”
A coldness seeped into my bones, like I’d been plunged into an Arctic sea.
These were the same brothers who had made me breakfast just this morning with their own hands.
Carrie sobbed as she ran into their arms, like a little girl finally coming home. “I thought… I thought you didn’t want me anymore…” she whispered.
The three exchanged looks, their faces a mixture of emotions. Finally, Zayden ruffled her hair affectionately, his voice gentle as always. “Silly girl. You’ve been causing trouble since you were little. When have we not cleaned up your mess?”
Carrie wiped her tears and linked her arms through theirs as if it were second nature. The four of them climbed into the cars, laughing and smiling.
Not one of them looked back at me.
Only when their cars disappeared from sight did I finally collapse against a rough tree trunk, feeling as if my heart had been ripped from my chest.
The bark scratched my skin, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the raw ache inside.
Carrie had always been the one everyone adored. Since we were children, she was the favored one.
Though we were twins, we were never equals.
When I was sick with a fever, my brothers took her to the amusement park. When I spent my birthday alone, she received gifts from the entire pack, my brothers standing proudly by her side.
I had crushed on Christian for ten years—he was my fated mate—but one glance from Carrie was enough to make him reject me and kiss her hand instead.
I thought that was my fate—to be unloved, to be the forgotten placeholder.
Until the night she ran away from her own wedding.
