“But I’m already married to him—at least, legally. We just haven’t had the wedding yet.”
“That’s easy to fix. File for divorce tomorrow. It’s not like you ever had a real ceremony anyway.” Clearly, he couldn’t hide his disdain for every single member of the Quigley family.
“Could you at least give Yves a chance? Spend some time with him, and if you still think he’s not right for me, then I’ll get a divorce. Deal?”
“Tsk, tsk! I always said you’re hopelessly romantic, but you used to get so mad when I called you out. Didn’t like it, did you?”
“Well, you wouldn’t want me to end up a divorcée, would you?”
“Ha! Do you really think I can stop you from making a mess of your own life? If you’re hell-bent on it, I’m not standing in your way.”
Lindsay decided to end the subject before he got even more riled up. “When are you coming back? Should I pick you up from the airport?”
“You’re too nice. Save the pleasantries for when I get back.”
Lindsay fell silent, not sure how to respond.
“I thought you wouldn’t be back until next week,” she said, recalling that this was how things had played out before, too.
“There’s been a lot of terrorist activity overseas lately. Too dangerous. I decided to come back early.”
Lindsay frowned. He’d gone to Aquora, and Mr. Quigley Sr. was still in Aquora, so why hadn’t he mentioned anything about it?
Shaking off her doubts, she offered warmly, “How about dinner tonight? My treat.”
“Oh, you’re definitely treating me tonight. While I was gone, you had my team pulling all-nighters to write you a script. And not just any script—a melodramatic romance!”
“You just don’t get it!” Of course she needed a romance—how else could the director personally coach Alexia through her scenes?
“I sure don’t get what goes on in that lovesick brain of yours.”
“You’ve gotten even snarkier since I last saw you.”
“Thank you for noticing.”
Lindsay couldn’t help but laugh. “So it’s settled, then? Dinner tonight?”
