The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 12

She snapped right back at her, telling her bluntly that if she was so afraid of gossip, maybe she shouldn’t act so outrageously and just bring people home without warning.

But Lindsay didn’t play by anyone’s rules. Without missing a beat, she gave her people the signal, and her bodyguards stepped up to protect her.

It was almost laughable—her so-called security detail was useless. Eight grown men couldn’t even lay a finger on a boy who barely looked old enough to shave.

Lindsay clapped her hands in delight, not hiding her admiration for Horace in the slightest. “Bravo! You weren’t lying after all, Horace. One against eight—impressive.”

Horace offered a polite smile. “You flatter me, Ms. Nelson.”

He turned to Helen, eyes narrowing with a glint of cold amusement. “So, what do we do about her?”

Lindsay glanced at Helen and gave her a warning. “Helen, it’s not too late to apologize. Don’t make things harder on yourself.”

Helen’s fear was obvious, but the thought of apologizing to someone younger than her? Unthinkable. Especially in the Quigley family. She didn’t believe for a second that Lindsay had the nerve to actually hurt her.

She tipped her chin up with defiance. “I’m Helen Quigley. Who are you to demand an apology from me? And anyway, your people just beat my bodyguards to a pulp. Maybe I should be demanding compensation from you.”

“Oh, a compensation claim?” Lindsay’s lips curled into a frosty smile. “Thanks for the reminder. Helen, you owe me for defaming my reputation. A woman’s dignity isn’t something you can smear so easily.”

“In your dreams!” Helen glared daggers at Lindsay. “Just because you married Yves doesn’t put you on my level. You’ll always be beneath me. The idea that I should apologize to you? Don’t make me laugh.”

Lindsay’s tone turned cool. “So, just to be clear—no apology and no compensation?”

Helen responded with a sneer and a dismissive snort, making her answer obvious.
