The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 14

Dealing with him was no harder than squashing an ant.

“Go ahead, try me. Even if Lindsay begged me, I still wouldn’t let you off,” Lester sneered, running his mouth as if Horace were nothing to him.

Horace’s eyes narrowed. In a flash, he moved—so quick he was almost a blur. His fist, hard as stone, crashed into Lester’s face, making Lester stagger several steps back and knit his brows in pain.

He cursed under his breath, a flash of cruelty in his eyes. “Damn you. You actually dared lay a hand on me.”

“You asked for it,” Horace replied flatly.

“You’ve got a death wish.” Lester’s expression hardened, and he lunged at Horace.

The bedroom door was already open. Lindsay had dragged over a chair and was now seated comfortably, a plate of fruit in her lap. She picked at the slices, watching the fight unfold with a look of lazy amusement.

But “fight” was generous—Horace was dominating Lester in every way.

Even though Lindsay wasn’t exactly a brawler herself, she could tell Horace was holding back; he was maybe using sixty percent of his strength, yet Lester was already being battered into submission.

It ended with Horace kicking Lester hard enough to send him crashing into the wall.

Satisfied, Lindsay finally set aside the fruit and strolled unhurriedly over to Lester. She smiled down at him. “Sorry, my guy got a little rough with you. Was there something you needed?”

A little rough?

“My mother looked after Yves night and day. Not only are you ungrateful, but you punished her for it. She almost died, you know that? The wounds on her back keep her up every night,” Lester shouted, his eyes red with fury, the glare in them sharp as a blade.

Lindsay’s expression barely changed. “Well, at least she’s not dead.”

She had no intention of explaining herself—Lester wouldn’t believe her anyway, and honestly, she didn’t care. Let him think what he wanted.

Her cold indifference made Lester’s anger boil over. He glared at Lindsay so hard it looked like he might attack her if Horace weren’t standing there.

“You really are ruthless, Lindsay! Two days as a Quigley and you’re already going after your elders. What’s next—are you planning to take over the entire family?”

Lindsay deflected Lester’s accusation with a calm retort. “I’m your elder now, aren’t I? So why do you keep calling me by my first name? Or is it that you don’t respect your elders either?”
