The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 142

Even though he was furious that Joseph had gone behind his back to see a movie with Naomi, Lester couldn’t just sit idly by. Joseph had been his best friend since childhood; now that something had happened to him, there was no way Lester could turn a blind eye.

Naomi, of course, didn’t mention anything about their date that night. “I’d been waiting for days without hearing from you. I was worried, so I asked Joseph to meet up and tell me how you’ve been doing.

Who could’ve known that as soon as he got out of the car, two masked men jumped him and started beating him up? Then a third one showed up. The last one looked more like a woman, but the first two, honestly, it was hard to tell.”

Lester’s feelings were tangled after hearing Naomi’s explanation. He pressed his lips together in silence.

These past days, he’d been swamped with preparations for the new company, and on top of that, he’d been busy coaxing Lindsay to get Yves to sign the paperwork as soon as possible. He barely had time for anything else.

Plus, he and Naomi had a falling out a few days ago, which was why he hadn’t answered her calls or replied to her messages.

“Lester, could you please come to the hospital? I’m here alone and I… I’m scared.” Naomi’s voice trembled as the silence stretched between them.

“I’m on my way.”

As soon as he hung up, Lester grabbed his coat, ready to head for the hospital.

Just then, a gentle female voice called out behind him, “Lester, where are you going?”

He paused mid-step and turned to see the woman standing in the hallway. “I have to step out for a bit. I’ll be back soon,” he said, his voice clipped.

She frowned, clearly displeased. “But your godfather will be here soon. He said he has important things to discuss with you.”

Tracy was Zachary’s goddaughter. She’d been assigned to Lester as his secretary just a week ago.

“It’s about Lester,” Tracy finally admitted, her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she squeezed Althea’s hand in return. “I know I’m adopted, but I was raised by the Lopezes. I’ve always understood your pain, Althea.”

Althea’s expression shifted as she suddenly caught on. “Is that Naomi woman trying to seduce Lester again?”

Tracy nodded emphatically. “She’s been chasing after Lester for weeks. I even overheard one of her calls to him. And just now, she phoned again and asked him to meet her. Apparently, talking business with your brother isn’t as important to him as she is.”

Althea’s face twisted with rage, her nails digging into her palm as she spat through gritted teeth, “She’s just like her mother—a parasite that just won’t die.”

“Aunt Althea, we can’t let this go on,” Tracy murmured, glancing at her. “If this keeps up, Lester’s going to be ruined by Naomi.”

“No. If anyone tries to destroy my son, I’ll destroy them first.” Althea’s gaze hardened, her eyes narrowing with a glint of menace. “It’s time he dealt with Naomi—once and for all. The sooner, the better.”
