Lindsay nodded. She really did have things to take care of today—today was the anniversary of her parents’ passing, and she needed to pay her respects at their graves.
Traditionally, she would have gone in the morning, but she’d slept so deeply last night that she missed the early hours.
After leaving Quigley Manor, Lindsay stopped to pick up some flowers and supplies for the visit, then drove out to the cemetery.
It had been a year since she’d last visited, and the thought that the headstone might be overrun with weeds crossed her mind. Just in case, she brought along a small gardening sickle.
But when she arrived at her parents’ grave, Lindsay was stunned. The headstone was spotless, the grass around it neatly trimmed. Fresh flowers had been left at the base, and there were traces of burnt offerings—ashes scattered neatly on the ground.
She froze. Who had come to visit her parents?
Not only had someone paid their respects, but they’d also tidied up the grave so carefully?
Puzzled, Lindsay knelt by her parents’ grave and began to talk to them, telling them all about what had happened recently.
Before she left, she made them a quiet promise. “Mom, Dad, I will find my little brother. When I do, I’ll bring him here to see you.”
She had a brother—he’d disappeared not long after their parents went bankrupt. He’d only been about three at the time.
She could still picture him, running after her with chubby legs, clinging to her and calling her “sissy” over and over. Back then, their family had been so happy.
But then the Nelson Group had suddenly hit a crisis and faced bankruptcy.
Lindsay had been young, but she remembered her parents begging for help wherever they could. The Quigley family was the first to extend a helping hand.
But the Nelson Group’s financial problems were just too deep. Even the Quigley’ support hadn’t been enough to save them.
In the end, everything collapsed. The Quigley eventually acquired the Nelson Group, renamed it Bloom, and folded it into their own business empire.
