The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 166

“I also heard him say that a producer’s wife approached him recently, wanting him to direct a film. He said it’s a big-budget project—he’s convinced it’ll be a hit!” As Ward spoke of his son, his face lit up with pride, a smile tugging at his lips that he couldn’t possibly hide.

“Wow, a director? That’s impressive!” Lindsay grinned. “When his movie premieres, you have to let me know. I’ll be first in line to support him.”

“Absolutely. I truly believe he’ll become a famous director. It’s just a matter of time.”

Lindsay nodded, then shifted the topic. “Mr. Carter, do you remember Mr. Wilson?”

“Mr. Wilson?” Ward frowned, searching his memory for the name. He couldn’t recall any friends named Wilson.

“He used to be a board member at the Nelson Group. He’s still with Bloom now, and apparently his shares are second only to the Quigley family’s.”

At that, Ward’s expression darkened. A flash of bitterness passed through his clouded eyes—so, it was George Wilson.

He’d been wondering who she meant!

“Mr. Carter, did Mr. Wilson ever do something to the Nelson Group?” Lindsay could read the hatred on Ward’s face as soon as she mentioned the name.

“How do you know George?” Ward didn’t answer her question, instead coming back with one of his own.

Lindsay hesitated before replying, “I work at Bloom now. I just had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson.”

Ward’s eyes went wide in shock, his pupils contracting. “You need to quit—immediately. Don’t let George find out who you are, or you’ll be in serious trouble.”

“Why? From what I’ve seen, Mr. Wilson and his wife seem like good people.” Lindsay feigned innocence, hoping to coax more information out of Ward.

“You’re better off not knowing. It won’t do you any good. I’m not telling you because I want to protect you.” Ward refused to say another word about the company’s fall.

“Lindsay, your priority now should be to live your life—if you can, find your brother, and take him to visit your parents’ graves.” Ward’s tone was gentle, but firm.

Of course Lindsay wanted to find her brother. She’d spent years searching, but he’d vanished when he was only three—too young to remember anything, or anyone.

“Mr. Carter, I’ll find him. But I’ll never forgive the people who destroyed the Nelson Group. If that hadn’t happened, my parents would still be alive. I wouldn’t have been left to depend on strangers, and my brother wouldn’t have disappeared.”

How could she not hate them?

She loathed the ones who’d ruined her family—if she could, she’d make them pay herself.
