The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 24

Horace stood in the doorway, a report in his hand. He handed it to Lindsay. “You asked me to get the lab results on that incense yesterday. Here they are.”

Lindsay took the report and flipped it open, her expression growing darker with each line she read. The incense wasn’t ordinary—it was custom-made, and the herbs inside weren’t what anyone would expect from regular incense.

Whoever made it had laced it with musk, datura, and a cocktail of other dangerous ingredients. Breathing in too much could leave someone comatose, with severe brain damage.

As she read, Lindsay instinctively glanced back at Yves, lying motionless on the large bed. He’d been in a coma for over three months now. The doctors called it a persistent vegetative state, but now it was clear—this “incense” was the real culprit.

It was Althea who’d ordered the staff to burn it every day. Ruthless didn’t even begin to describe her.

All so Lester could keep his grip on the Quigley Group and its presidency. Poisoning Yves—how far was Althea really willing to go? Lindsay couldn’t help but wonder if Althea had something to do with the attack on Yves as well.

“What are you planning to do?” Horace broke the silence.

Lindsay folded the report, thinking carefully before she replied. “I’ll wait and watch. If I make a move too soon, I’ll tip her off. The incense is gone now, so Yves should start recovering.”

“You’re not going to confront her?” Horace pressed.

“Not yet. I don’t have enough power, and a single lab report isn’t enough to take Althea down.” Lindsay was cautious with every step; one wrong move and she’d be finished.

Horace chuckled. “You sure didn’t seem weak when you tore into them the other day.”

“That was different. Those were just minor skirmishes. This report could destroy Althea. Even if Mr. Quigley Senior is on my side, there are more of them than there are of us. If push comes to shove, they’ll sacrifice me to save themselves.” For now, Lindsay’s plan was to wait for Yves to wake up before she challenged Althea.
