The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 26

If the goal was simply to ruin Yves, then this would be far too blatant.

But if the entire fertility clinic were to go up in flames, well, that would simply be an accident.

Lester nodded in agreement, a cold glint flickering in his eyes. “I’ll have my assistant handle it. Since Yves is a vegetable now, having a child would only bring suffering to them both. In a way, I’m doing him a favor.”

“Exactly. Let’s call it an act of mercy,” Althea said with a sweet smile. “Single-parent families never turn out well, after all.”

Lester nodded and turned to head upstairs.

But Althea called after him. “Lester, are you free tomorrow night? I’ve arranged for you to have dinner with Ms. Green. She’s quite interested in you.”

Lester’s brow furrowed in irritation. “Mom, I’m not interested in Ms. Green. Please stop arranging these meetings in my name.”

Ms. Green was spoiled, entitled, always looking down on everyone—who could possibly be attracted to a woman like that?

Not like Naomi—gentle, considerate, every word soft and kind.

Althea’s expression soured. “Lester, do you even realize who Ms. Green is? Marrying her would do wonders for your career.”

The Green family wasn’t just wealthy—they had political connections, too. Ms. Green’s older brother was a high-ranking official in Skyrim.

There’s that old saying: ‘Ten years of study is worth less than three generations of business, and three generations of business can’t compare to having ancestors in politics.’

The Greens had it all—money and power. In Skyrim, that made them practically untouchable.

If you keep getting involved with that girl, you’re making a mockery of me for that woman to laugh at!”

“There are plenty of women in this world, and you insist on Naomi? An illegitimate child—how could she ever be worthy of you?”

“Her background isn’t her choice,” Lester shot back, unashamed to praise Naomi. “But her character is. She’s kind and generous, and I admire her for it.”

He didn’t realize just how much this wounded Althea. Her own son was in love with the daughter of the woman she hated most in the world—it was a knife to the heart.

“Lester, I’ll ask you just once—do you choose Naomi, or me, your mother?” Althea’s voice trembled, but her eyes were cold as ice. If he dared choose Naomi—

She’d make sure that woman and her daughter wouldn’t live to see tomorrow.
