"No..."
"How else would I know?" Penelope raised an eyebrow. "According to him, you bought him a video game console to keep him from telling Ward."
Mrs. Sullivan was terrified, panicked that Penelope would tell her husband. Penelope smirked. Zebulon really had told her that story, and it had completely shattered her perception of their family at the time.
"And you," Penelope said, turning her attention to Rebecca. "Do you know what Zebulon says about you? He says that the moment you get into bed, you start asking for things. It makes him feel less like he's sleeping with his wife and more like he's with a... prostitute."
Rebecca's face turned ashen. "He... he would never say that about me!"
"Oh, and he also said he's not even sure the baby you're carrying is his. He's planning to get a paternity test after it's born. If it's not his, he's going to kick both you and the baby out of the Sullivan family."
"Zebulon!" Rebecca hissed through clenched teeth.
Penelope suppressed a laugh. Her story was a mix of truth and lies, but with minds like theirs, once they believed the truth, they wouldn't question the falsehoods.
"That little bastard, how dare he spread such lies! I'll teach him a lesson!" Mrs. Sullivan clenched her fists and stormed toward her house.
Rebecca, wiping away tears, ran after her. "He's gone too far!"
Chaos erupted across the street. There was a crash, a string of shouts, and then Zebulon was thrown out of the house, looking even more disheveled than before.
Penelope leaned against her doorframe, nearly doubling over with laughter. Life was never dull around here.
But the show wasn't over yet. Just then, Anna arrived.
"You left your jacket in my car," she said, holding up Zebulon's suit coat just as Mrs. Sullivan and Rebecca came chasing after him.
The two women saw Anna, then glanced at the jacket in her hand, and the pieces clicked into place.
Ten minutes later, upon learning that Anna was the one who had connected Zebulon with Zenith Group, Mrs. Sullivan's demeanor changed completely. She became the gracious hostess, warmly inviting Anna in. But Anna insisted on sitting outside. As she sipped her coffee, she kept glancing over at Penelope.
Penelope knew the woman was trying to get a rise out of her, so she simply sat on her own doorstep and drank her own coffee.
Seeing that her provocations were having no effect, Anna kicked off her high heels and stretched her bare foot into Zebulon's lap. Zebulon immediately lowered his head, his expression a mixture of disgust and resignation. When she nudged him with her toes, he began to cradle her foot, caressing it carefully.
Penelope had to admit, she was a little provoked—mostly because she was disgusted.
But the one who couldn't stand it was Rebecca. She was already seething after finding out Anna was the woman from last night. Now, seeing her brazenly flirt with her husband right in front of her, she snapped.
The next moment, she grabbed a coffee cup from the stone table and hurled its contents at Anna.
"You bitch!"
