She was alone, abandoned by the world.
In the end, it was her mother who ran onto the stage, helped her up, and led her to the dressing room.
"Oh, this is so humiliating, so humiliating! I shouldn't have invited our relatives. How will your father and I ever show our faces again?"
Rebecca couldn't stand to hear it. She shoved her mother away. "What's so humiliating? From now on, I'm the one and only Mrs. Sullivan! People will only look at me with envy! That's right, they're just envious and jealous, that's why they're trying to hurt me! All of them, especially Penelope!"
"I haven't lost! I haven't!"
"I, Rebecca, got what I wanted! I am the winner!"
Mrs. Winters was pushed out of the dressing room. She still had to deal with the other relatives, so she shook her head and left.
Rebecca kept muttering to herself, "I didn't lose, I did nothing wrong, I'm the winner," like she had gone mad.
Just then, Susan entered.
Rebecca's eyes snapped to her. "It was you. You leaked my plan to Penelope, didn't you?"
Susan frowned and sighed. "I'm telling you, don't mess with her anymore."
"Who does she think she is? You think I'm afraid of her?"
"She... she's the bride the president of the Zenith Group is marrying tomorrow. She's the 'Mrs. Stapleton' you think is so out of your league."
Rebecca stared for a moment, then burst out laughing.
"You're saying she, Penelope, is Mrs. Stapleton? Ha! Did I hear you wrong, or have you lost your mind?"
"It's true..."
"Then you've lost your mind!"
Susan shrugged. "I've told you. Believe it or not."
With that, she turned and left the room.
Rebecca couldn't stop laughing. "She said Penelope is Mrs. Stapleton? Impossible! The sky could fall, and that still wouldn't be possible. It's so absurd, I don't believe a word of it!"
"I do," she said, her voice a painful rasp.
Mr. Sullivan slammed his hand on the table. "Do you have any idea who was here today? These are the biggest names in the business world! I went to their homes personally to invite them, and you... you not only ruined the big day, you humiliated me and the entire Sullivan family!"
"If you hadn't done such shameless things, you wouldn't have been humiliated," Penelope countered, raising an eyebrow.
"I wasn't going to hold a grudge, but you just had to pick a fight with me!"
"So what?"
Mr. Sullivan gritted his teeth, then suddenly stood up and pointed a finger at Penelope.
"This woman is the one behind all the chaos today!"
His shout drew the attention of the entire room.
"This woman is nothing but an ungrateful viper!"
