Hans' face alternated between shades of green and white. He knew they were insulting him but couldn’t retaliate, because doing so would be an admission that he had, in fact, bullied Theodore.

Even though it was obvious, admitting it would be embarrassing.

“Your robot injured a guest for no reason, which had an extremely negative impact on our hotel. We could have demanded an explanation, but out of respect for our families’ long-standing relationship and because Theodore is of a younger generation, I decided not to pursue the matter. However, we will definitely not be accepting that batch of robots.”

Hans finished, a look of triumph in his eyes. They could have their fun with words, but he had hit them right where it hurt.

“Hans, you’re so old, yet you’re still so… loyal and righteous!” Joseph shook his head with a smirk, the praise dripping with sarcasm.

“Not just loyal and righteous, but full of integrity, too,” Penelope added, also shaking her head.

“Not just full of integrity, but so honest and trustworthy,” Joseph continued, still smirking.

“Not just honest and trustworthy, but so kind-hearted,” Penelope chimed in, mimicking his headshake.

Hans was so thoroughly roasted that he felt like he could grind his teeth to dust.

“My dear, he wants to return the shipment. What are we going to do?” Joseph asked Penelope with feigned concern.

Penelope sighed dramatically. “This is going to be difficult.”

At her words, Hans began to look smug again.

“Can you handle it?”

“If Grandpa trusts me.”

“Go for it!”

Penelope’s eyes sparkled. “Then I’ll have to give it my all.”

It was only then that Hans understood what was happening: Joseph was letting Penelope handle the crisis. After confirming he hadn’t misheard, he couldn’t help but sneer.
