The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself novel Chapter 501

“Stop! Stop fighting!”

Zebulon had arrived. He yelled at the workers, but no one listened to him.

Just then, he saw a worker who had found a wooden stick somewhere raise it, about to bring it down on Penelope’s head. His brow furrowed, and he rushed forward to shield her.

The stick hit him on the ear before landing on his shoulder, the pain causing him to suck in a sharp breath.

Penelope hadn’t expected Zebulon to rush over and protect her. She gave him a complicated look, then kicked the worker who had attacked her to the ground.

“If you don’t stop now, I’m calling the police!”

Penelope shouted, and Zebulon echoed her. Only then did the workers, who were caught up in the heat of the fight, finally stop.

Just as they paused, news came from the hospital. Buck’s wife had apparently tried to kill herself with a fruit knife in Hannah’s room. Fortunately, hospital security had stopped her, otherwise things would have gotten even worse.

Penelope felt a headache coming on. These people were incredibly difficult to deal with, fearless and acting with a sense of entitlement, as if being blue-collar workers made them infallible.

“You have to pay up immediately, or we’ll be here making trouble every single day!” Darren yelled at Penelope.

Penelope’s face was grim. “How much do you want?”

“One million dollars.”

“A million all for Buck? What do you guys get out of it?”

“Us?” Darren coughed. “We’re standing up for our friend. We don’t want anything!”

Really?

Penelope didn’t believe that for a second. The way Darren and his men were acting, like they had nothing to lose, didn’t seem like it was just for the sake of justice.

Penelope’s mind raced as she turned to look at Zebulon.
