The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself novel Chapter 513

Penelope glanced back as she fled. Three bodyguards were chasing her, but thankfully, they didn't want to cause a major scene, so they had fallen far behind.

The elevator was just ahead. Penelope was about to breathe a sigh of relief when two more bodyguards suddenly appeared from another hallway, blocking her path.

She stopped short, looked left and right, and darted down another corridor.

There should be a staircase at the end of the hall. She sprinted toward it, only to find a dead end. As she turned to go back, the three bodyguards caught up with her.

Penelope took a deep breath, and before the bodyguards could make a move, she launched a kick.

Three burly men. Even with some fighting skills, Penelope was seriously outmatched. But she was agile and, more importantly, quick-witted. After a series of feints that infuriated the three men, she landed a solid punch right on one bodyguard's nose, hitting him hard enough to draw blood.

All three were momentarily stunned, then lunged at Penelope at once. But she looked completely unafraid, even taunting them with a gesture before charging toward them.

Just as the three bodyguards braced for a head-on confrontation, Penelope suddenly dropped low and slipped right past them, making a run for it.

Before Penelope could celebrate her escape, the other two bodyguards blocked her path again. She frantically looked around, saw a nearby door, and without a second thought, pushed it open and slipped inside.

Once inside, she froze.

She was in the main ballroom, and she had entered through a side door.

A staff member was guarding the door. Seeing her come in and sizing her up, he immediately became alert.

“Miss, do you have an invitation?”

Penelope pressed her lips together. Of course she didn't have one.

But if she went back out now, she'd be caught by those five thugs for sure.

Just as she was trying to figure out what to do, someone walked up beside her.

“She's with me.”
