Three Years Wasted I Married Mr. Right novel Chapter 144

Chapter 144

Just as Emily fell down the stairs, the door at the bottom burst open.

David raced up, dropping to his knees beside Emily in a panic and scooping her into his arms.

He cried out, Emily, are you okay? Don’t do this to meplease, open your eyes. Look at me, Emily.

Blood oozed down Emily’s forehead, smearing quickly all over her face.

Her eyelids fluttered, and she slowly woke up, clutching David’s arm and managing a faint, feeble smile at him.

I’m okay, David. Please don’t blame Sophiait was just an accident,Emily murmured.

David traced Emily’s gaze up the stairs and spotted Sophia standing calmly on the landing.

Fury blazed in David’s eyes as he barked, Sophia, why did you shove Emily down the stairs?

Sophia just stood there with her arms folded, watching Emily’s Oscarworthy performance and David’s helpless rage with total indifference.

She scoffed, Didn’t you hear her? She said she’s fine. So quit blaming me. What, are you deaf or blind?

David was so pissed that he could barely hold it together. He was about to set Emily down and go after Sophia, ready to let her have it.

He snapped, You shove someone and still act so full of yourself? I’m gonna teach you what it means to act like a real person today.

Emily was sprawled on the ground, her head killing her, but seeing David charge at Sophia gave her a secret surge of satisfaction.

Last time, David sent Sophia to the hospitalruptured spleen, days stuck in the ICU.

Emily thought, Now that I am this badly hurt, David is sure to go after Sophia even more viciously.

Emily secretly hoped David would go full Lucas on Sophiabreak a few of her ribs and let her rot in the hospital for three whole months.

David barreled up the stairs, swinging his hand at Sophia from several steps away without even closing the gap.

He aimed to slap her so hard she’d hit the ground, but he never expected Sophia to fight back.

Sophia caught him off guard with a swift kick straight to his chest, taking the initiative before he could get. close.

Caught completely off guard, the kick slammed right into his chest, launching David backward and sending him tumbling down the stairs.

Unlike Emily, who’d instinctively shielded herself as she fell, David crashed down hard with nothing to break his fall.

Emily didn’t even have a split second to react before David crashed into herhitting her with full force..

She heard a sharp, sickening crack, and a wave of dull pain shot up through her waist.

This time, she couldn’t hold it inher scream was pure, raw agony.

The impact was mostly absorbed by Emily, so Davidthough rattledmanaged to escape injury.

But hearing Emily scream tore him up inside; it hurt him even more than being hurt himself.

He scrambled to his feet, panic making his hands shake. He asked, Emily, where does it hurt? Just tell me, okay?

Emily’s vision blurred from the pain. In her head, she ran through every curse word she could think of.

She complained inwardly, Why do these disasters always have to hit me out of nowhere?

David saw Emily’s eyes roll back from agony and wanted to pick her up, but he was scared he’d end up hurting her even worse.

He just stood there, completely helpless, eyes fixed on her. He said, Emily, say something, please! Don’t do

this to me.”

Call an ambulance,Emily managed, her voice trembling with pain.

David forgot all about Sophia and grabbed his phone, frantically dialing for an ambulance.

Upstairs, Annabelle pushed open the door and rushed to Sophia’s side. She asked, Sophie, are you okay?

Sophia shook her head, looking down at David and Emily from the top of the stairs.

The creepy green glow from the emergency exit lights made them look downright sinister, like something straight out of a horror movie.

I’m good. They’re the ones in trouble,Sophia said.

David hung up and shot Sophia a deadly glare. He snapped, Sophia, if anything happens to Emily, I’ll see you locked up

forever.

Sophia let out a cold, contemptuous laugh.

She said, “For three years, I could never figure out why it was so damn hard to please you.

I have made myself so small for you, grovelingjust hoping for a scrap of approval.

But the more I tried, the less you cared. I always figured it was just those 22 years we’d spent apart, but it turns out there is never a real family bond to begin with.

Chapter 144

Well, that explains everything.”
