Three Years Wasted I Married Mr. Right novel Chapter 160

Chapter 160

Sophia felt a faint sense of unease, but seeing Annabelle’s enthusiastic expression, she didn’t say anything to dampen the mood.

As they walked along the path, Annabelle said, Sophie, have you noticed that the moon in the countryside is brighter than in the city?

Yeah, look at the cobblestones on the path aheadthey’re lit up so clearly,Sophia replied.

In the city, heavy air pollution and glamorous streetlights always outshine the moon.

But out here in the countryside, once night fell, it was just the moonlightmaking everything seem so pure and enchanting.

Let’s walk a bit more, take a stroll to help digest our food,Annabelle suggested.

She’d stuffed herself at dinner, and if she just went straight to bed now, her stomach would be complaining for sure.

Sophia stayed by her side as they wandered, listening to the chorus of insects and birds calling out in the darkness.

Annabelle stretched with a lazy grin. Getting away from all that city chaos and breathing in this fresh airno wonder they say the countryside is nature’s oxygen haven. I seriously want to stay a few more days.

Totally! I’ll stick around with you. Let’s check out if there’s any farm stay nearby,Sophia replied.

Annabelle was just halfjoking, but Sophia was already searching for farm stays on her phone, clearly planning to settle in for a bit.

Annabelle thought to herself, No matter what kind of feelings or relationships you’ve got, being real and sincere is always your best weapon.

Sophie, I really have to thank my parents for letting me meet you. If I were a guy, I’d definitely marry you- who cares about Lucas then?Annabelle said, half joking but clearly meaning it from the heart.

Just thinking about Lucas made Annabelle clench her jaw in annoyance. Honestly, she kind of wished she’d been born a guy, just for a moment.

Sophia couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Hey, if I were a guy, I’d totally marry you, too.”

Annabelle just shook her head, smiling. Seems like we’re both wishing we were guys, but come onbeing a guy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

For real, women can carry the world on their shoulders, too,Sophia replied.

After their walk, as they headed back, they heard Derek and Sierra chatting outside the main house.

Why is the well water I just fetched all cloudy? I was planning to boil some and bring it over to Sophie and

Annabelle’s room, just in case they get thirsty in the middle of the night,Sierra said.

Derek took a puff of his pipe. That’s strange. When I went to feed the pigs carlier, they were grunting nonstop, and the chickens and ducks in the backyard were all restless, too.”

Sierra looked puzzled. Did you give them too much feed? We don’t want them making a racket and disturbing Sophie and Annabelle’s sleep.”

I’ve got this uneasy feeling tonight. Let’s stay alert and not sleep too soundly, just in case,Derek said.

Just as they finished talking, they saw Sophia and Annabelle coming back.

Sierra greeted them warmly and invited them to sit, then went inside and brought out snacks.

Sierra smiled and said, You haven’t come back for years, huh? Everything must look fresh and new. Did you go see your adoptive parentsplace?

No, I haven’t. Are theydoing okay?Sophia asked quietly.

Sierra sighed, Not long after Charles took you away, your adoptive parents moved out, too. They haven’t come back in years. I hear they’ve done well for themselves outside, and now they look down on our small

town.

Sophia blinked in surprise. She thought, Huh, I totally didn’t expect that.

So that’s why my adoptive parents never came looking for trouble all these yearsthey must’ve just been lying low somewhere.

But what exactly are they hiding from?

We figured they’d moved to the city to find you and get a fresh start. Looks like you don’t have a clue where they’ve gone either,Derek said.

Sophia nodded. Ever since I left Ginkgo Town, I haven’t run into them even once.

Sierra said, They snatched you away and let you suffer for over ten years. I bet they went on the run because they knew the law would catch up with them sooner or later.

You went through hell as a kid. Who could’ve ever imagined you were actually the heiress of the Evans family?

Sophia didn’t say a word about her true identity, feeling it’d only scare Sierra.

They lingered at the doorstep, chatting until it was latethen Sierra hurried them off to bed.

The room was pretty bare, and it still had unpainted cement walls from back when it was first built. The bed

was one of those old wooden frame types, covered with dry straw and a thick quilt on top.
