Sophia heard the distant rumble of thunder. “It’s about to rain, Lucas. Let’s not go any deeper into the
mountains.”
Lucas snapped back, his tone menacing, “Shut up. Didn’t you want a flower crown? We’ll go back once we find some wildflowers.”
“It’s pitch black out here–where the hell are we supposed to find wildflowers? Can you stop being so unreasonable?” Sophia snapped.
“Didn’t you grow up around here? Then you should know where to look,” Lucas retorted.
Sophia’s breath came in heavy, angry bursts. “If you want to get yourself killed, go ahead–but don’t drag me down with you.”
With that, she struggled even harder, determined to break free.
The thunder rumbled closer, the thick, muggy air pressing in, and fat raindrops started pounding down all around them.
Out of nowhere, Lucas grabbed Sophia and slung her right over his shoulder, stomping off into the mountains without so much as a warning.
“Nobody’s going back until we find those damn wildflowers!” he barked.
Just thinking about the way Sophia looked at Richard when he placed that flower crown on her head was enough to make Lucas’s blood boil.
‘It’s nothing but some worthless flower crown,‘ Lucas sneered to himself. ‘I can make one just as well.
‘Maybe if I give her one, she’ll finally quit her tantrum and patch things up between us.
‘Seriously, what is Lucas even thinking?‘ Sophia wondered, baffled by his wildflower fixation. ‘No way am I dying out here because of his crazy stunt.
Over the past few days, she’d joined the rescue teams, clawing through rubble, and witnessed dozens of young lives cut short–kids trapped with no way out before help could ever reach them.
any of them were in the prime of youth, bright as fresh blossoms, only to be snuffed out this early ner, their tomorrows lost for good.
phia flailed wildly, kicking and punching like she’d lost her mind. “Lucas, it’s pouring. Quit dragging me further into the mountains.”
The rain started pounding down all of a sudden, cold and stinging against their skin, leaving them drenched in an instant.
With rain coming down this hard, heading deeper into the mountains was just begging for a death wish.

Chapter 185
Lucas marched on without hesitation.
The torrential rain hammered down through the gaps in the trees, crashing over him with nowhere to hide.
He wasn’t intimidated at all–strangely enough, it actually thrilled him.
So Sophia only thinks of me this way because of that whole life–saving debt? Whatever–if that’s how she sees me. I’ll play along. Lucas thought to himself.
We’re stuck in this together now. If I save her one more time, she’ll fall for me again, just like three years ago, he
ed himself, certain this was his chance.
If Sophia could see what he was thinking, she’d probably just call him crazy.
The rain was coming down in buckets, soaking the two of them right through in a matter of seconds.
Sophia’s voice was drowned out by the heavy rain as she pleaded with Lucas to turn back.
Lucas pressed on through the storm like a man possessed, ignoring everything and everyone–even Sophia’s desperate cries.
He hauled Sophia over his shoulder, the rain blurring everything in front of him. Water drenched his phone, and the flashlight couldn’t pierce the darkness at all.
Sophia screamed until her throat was raw, cursing him as a total maniac. ‘He’s not out here for wildflowers- he’s trying to get me killed!‘ she thought angrily, fury and terror mingling inside her.
Lucas marched on without a pause, voice hard as steel. “Quit wasting your energy, Sophia. I don’t give up halfway.”
Sophia stopped struggling, defeated–she resigned herself to whatever was coming.
‘Please, let there be no flash floods or mudslides. I just want to live to see another day,’ she thought desperately, clinging to hope for survival.
After what felt like ages trudging through the rain, Lucas, finally out of steam, lowered Sophia to the ground.
He dragged her over to a big sturdy tree, ripped off his tie, and roughly bound her hands tight to the trunk.
Sophia’s eyes narrowed, her whole body tense. “What do you think you’re trying to do?”
oing to look for wildflowers. Just wait here for me,” Lucas said, then turned and headed deeper into the ntains without another word.
Sophia watched as the beam of light from his phone faded into the darkness. She was just stunned- completely numb.
‘This can’t be happening!‘ she thought, panic surging. ‘Is he seriously tying me up here just to leave me for dead?‘
She was so exhausted from all that screaming earlier that she couldn’t even muster up another word.

Chapter 183
Hell, if she really ended up caught in a flash flood or mudslide, she’d come back to haunt Lucas from the afterlife and curse him every single day.
You bastard, Lucas!‘ she spat inwardly, rage boiling inside her.
