Three Years Wasted I Married Mr. Right novel Chapter 95

Chapter 95

Rachel turned to see Sophia standing there in a pale lavender dress with a cardigan layered over it. Her slightly damp hair rested gently on her shoulders, making her look fresh and pure as if she’d just stepped out of a painting.

“Mrs. Westwood, I picked them from the hill out back this morning. They’re as fresh as can be. I’ll make acorn pancakes for you in a bit. You must give it a try,” Rachel replied warmly.

Sophia recalled what she’d told herself back at Grace Abbey. She pulled her hair into a neat ponytail and washed her hands

once more.

“Rachel, let me handle this,” Sophia said.

Rachel waved her off and replied, “No way, Mrs. Westwood. Just let me know what you want. I’ll take care of it.”

“It’s a thank–you gift, and it means so much more if I make it myself,” Sophia said softly.

Rachel figured Sophia was going out of her way to cook for Lucas. Rachel thought, ‘She’s too soft–hearted. Lucas brought his girlfriend right into the house, and she still doesn’t hold it against him. She cooks for him as if nothing ever happened.

‘In married life, who doesn’t have the occasional shouting match? Once you let bygones be bygones, life keeps rolling on.

‘If one person in a marriage is willing to step back, the whole thing won’t fall apart.

With a warm smile, Rachel said, “Lucas is going to be so happy when he hears you’re cooking for him yourself.”

Back when everything was fine, Sophia handled all of Lucas’s needs. She took care of him and cooked every meal. But ever since they hit a rough patch, she hadn’t made him a single dish. Sophia kept quiet and said nothing.

Lucas happened to overhear Rachel from the hallway and couldn’t help thinking, ‘She was putting on airs all the way home, but look at her now. She’s already making dinner to please me. Classic. Women always say one thing but do another.‘

Content and smug, Lucas strolled away, thinking it wouldn’t be long before Sophia came to invite him down for dinner.

Rachel had gathered plenty of acorns, so Sophia made lots of bread with them.

Kneading the bread flour and letting it rest, she did it all like a pro.

She put the acorn bread into the oven, then started preparing to make acorn pancakes.

After the bread and pancakes were ready, she found a food box and packed them inside.

He caught sight of Sophia’s car already heading toward the gate. He sprinted after her, moving so fast he even lost a slipper.

“Sophia, where are you going? You’ve barely set foot inside and you’re already running off again?” he yelled.

His angry shout rang out into the night, but all he saw were the taillights of the white Mercedes blinking once before vanishing into the darkness.

His face was like thunder as he stomped back a few steps to shove his feet into his shoes. Then he stormed back into the house to grab his phone and call Sophia, still fuming.

The phone was ringing in the kitchen when he got there, and he spotted Rachel shoving the leftover bread into the fridge.

He snapped, “I haven’t even had any yet. Why are you putting it away?”

Rachel jumped at the look on his face and said quickly, “Mrs. Westwood told me to.”

“She didn’t make it just for me?” Lucas blurted out, glancing at the frying pan. He could still smell the pancakes in the air, but there were no pancakes anywhere.

Rachel sighed quietly, “Obviously not.”
