Three Years Wasted I Married Mr. Right novel Chapter 96

Chapter 96

Lucas was seething inside, but he couldn’t deny the truth anymore. Sophia had stopped making him the center of her world.

The days when her unwavering attention was his for the taking were over. Now, no matter how much he pleaded, she wouldn’t even stop for him.

He grabbed the bag of bread and stormed right out the door.

Rachel looked at his back and thought, ‘Serves him right. Mrs. Westwood spoiled him like he was her own treasure, and he never cherished it. Now she’s tired of him, but he’s as regretful as ever!

Lucas slumped onto the couch, grabbed a piece of bread, and shoved it into his mouth.

He had never tasted anything this coarse before. The sharp, almost bitter bite of the acorns made him want to spit them out immediately.

But then he realized Sophia had made it herself, so he forced himself to choke it down, swallowing hard to keep from gagging.

Emily came downstairs and saw Lucas sitting on the couch, taking bites of the bread.

Maybe it was because the bread was so dry, or maybe it was something else, but his eyes filled with tears.

Emily hurried over, alarmed, and sat down beside him. “Lucas, if you can’t eat it, don’t make yourself keep going,” she said.

Lucas turned to look at her, tears streaming down, desperate for reassurance. “Emily, did I lose her?” he asked.

Before, Sophia used to cook all his favorite dishes every day. No matter how late he came home, there would always be a hot meal just for him.

But now, even when she cooks something delicious, none of it is meant for him.

She had made pancakes earlier and hadn’t left him a single bite. If he hadn’t grabbed this coarse, dry bread, he wouldn’t have tasted a thing.

The realization hit Lucas hard that Sophia didn’t love him anymore. That thought was driving him crazy. Before Emily could respond, Lucas angrily threw the bread into the trash.

Jason took the box and went on, “You can’t swing by and not come in, Ms. Evans. Step out of the car, won’t you?”

Jason sniffed the air, and his eyes lit up. “Mr. Edmund Sterling looks forward to this every spring. He’s been craving acorn bread so much that he can’t even sleep.” Jason said.

Sophia smiled and said, “I heard from Mr. Richard Sterling today, and as luck would have it, our maid Rachel went up the hillside behind our house and gathered some fresh acorns. So I thought I’d make some bread for Mr. Edmund Sterling.”

“You’re always so thoughtful, Ms. Evans,” Jason praised warmly.

They chatted as they walked into the villa. As soon as Edmund heard them coming, he got up with his cane to greet them.

“Sophie, welcome,” Edmund said, his voice warm.

Sophia hurried over and hooked her arm through his. “Mr. Sterling, how are you feeling? Am I coming by too late? Did I wake you up?” Sophia asked.

Edmund beamed at her with genuine, grandfatherly warmth. Then he said, “No, not at all. I’m always up late anyway.”
