“Zinnia…”
Xander wanted to say more, but Zinnia didn’t give him the chance.
“Mr. Jensen, I can’t grant your request. Since you’re worried about your mother, I’m sure you can understand how I feel. My dog is family to me. I watched, with my own eyes, as your mother nearly abused it to death. There’s no way I can just let this go.”
Xander fell silent, apparently realizing how shameless his request sounded.
“Focus on your recovery. And stop overexerting yourself.”
Speaking as a doctor, Zinnia offered this final piece of advice before hanging up the phone.
After that, whether it was because Xander was too weak or simply too embarrassed to plead with her again, Zinnia never heard from him.
Enliven Private Hospital.
“So? Did that bitch agree to settle?” Noelle blurted out the moment she saw Xander hang up the phone.
Xander shot her a look, brow furrowed. “Can you show a little respect?”
He’d only woken up last night and was still weak, drifting in and out of sleep. The moment he’d opened his eyes, his father and sister had pressured him into making that call—even before he had any idea what his mother had actually done.
But Zinnia’s hardline attitude, and the fact that his mother had been taken away by the police with no chance of bail, made it clear this wasn’t something minor.
Noelle bristled at Xander’s defense of Zinnia. “What, you’re into her now too? She’s trying to put Mom in prison and you’re taking her side?”
Her voice was shrill as she shouted at him.
Noelle’s face flickered with guilt at his response.
She shuddered involuntarily, recalling the moment Landon had nearly killed her.
Juniper sat nearby, worry etched deep into his brow, but he said nothing as his children argued. Only when Xander finished speaking did Juniper’s thoughtful gaze settle on Noelle.
“He’s right. Landon took down all those videos slandering your mother before. He’ll help her again this time for sure.”
Juniper still had no idea what had happened at the hospital, or just how far his daughter had gone. He still thought of Landon as the boy who’d always done whatever Noelle wanted.
“Noelle, talk to him again. If Landon gets involved, this will all be easy to fix.”
