Juniper couldn’t have cared less about Rosalie getting caught.
It was just a dog, after all. At worst, they’d have to pay some compensation. As long as Landon stepped in, Zinnia could kick up all the fuss she wanted—it wouldn’t matter.
Right now, his mind was on something else entirely.
The advance payment for that mall project in Eastside—the Ford Group still hadn’t transferred the funds to Infinity Structures Inc.’s account.
Juniper was worried that pushing too hard might rub Landon the wrong way.
But without a clear answer, he just couldn’t shake the anxiety gnawing at him.
He turned to Noelle. “Go talk to Landon. Bring up your mom’s situation, and while you’re at it, ask—subtly—when the advance for that Eastside project will come through. Don’t be too direct, though, or Landon might think we’re just after his money.”
Juniper rambled on, completely oblivious to the darkening look on Noelle’s face.
“Are you serious? Why do I always have to do your dirty work?” Noelle’s voice was icy, her irritation barely concealed. “All these years, how many favors have you pulled from Ford Group through me? Can’t you figure something out for once? If I keep pestering him, won’t Landon start to resent me?”
Juniper was momentarily stunned by his daughter’s hard-edged tone. Still, he couldn’t ignore the fact that the Jensen family’s only leverage with Landon was Noelle.
So even though he was annoyed, he tried to placate her. “Sweetheart, I know the Jensen family owes you a lot. But you’re the only one Landon ever listens to. I have no choice but to rely on you.”
“Rely on me?” Noelle let out a cold laugh. “Funny, then, that you only ever think about handing Infinity Structures Inc. to my brother. Never once have you considered letting me take over.”
The color drained from Juniper’s face at her words.
But that meant that if Ford Group ever stopped protecting them, the fallout would be catastrophic. “Disaster” was almost an understatement.
That was exactly why Juniper had been on edge ever since Ford Group’s payment was delayed.
“All these years, you’ve used your ‘illness’ as an excuse to party overseas. What have you actually learned? You’ve got no skills at all, yet you think you deserve to inherit Infinity Structures Inc.? With your brother around, maybe you can keep living the good life. Without him, you’d be lucky not to end up on the street.”
With that, Juniper stormed out of Xander’s hospital room, not sparing a glance at Noelle’s dark, stormy expression.
Noelle was left fuming, her father’s harsh words ringing in her ears.
She muttered a curse through clenched teeth, slammed the door behind her, and stalked off—completely unconcerned about whether the noise would disturb her brother, still recovering in his hospital bed.
