Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 10

Hunter looked at Noelle blankly. "Number 12? I have no idea what you're talking about, but I did hear that you're divorced. Congratulations on the rebirth."

Noelle felt a ripple through her chest.

Hunter was two years younger. He was once the kid who trailed after her, calling her name in a sing-song voice. They used to be incredibly close and even dominated international races together as an unstoppable team.

But after that car crash six years ago, she'd cut ties with her previous teammates, including Hunter.

"Thank you," she said, pulling herself back from the memories.

Suddenly, a cold, furious male voice rang out behind her. "So is he the reason behind all the divorce drama, Noelle? All to cheat on me with this bastard?"

Noelle turned to see Clifford glaring at her, his expression dark with rage. Lola rushed up behind him in small, hurried steps as though afraid he might slip off with Noelle if she were a second too late.

Noelle scoffed, "Cheat? We're divorced, Clifford. And weren't you the one locked in a make-out session in the lobby just moments ago?"

Clifford clenched his fists, fixing his sharp, deadly glare on Noelle. "That was just a game!"

Lola quickly added, "Don't misunderstand, Noelle. Mr. Fuller still cares about you the most…"

With his arms crossed, Hunter leaned casually against the wall and commented with a smirk, "Since when is 'just a game' a valid excuse for cheating? If you two are caught in bed with your clothes off, will you also say that's just a game?"

Before Clifford could explode, Hunter smirked and continued, "But just to be clear, I'm not the man Noelle's cheating on with."

As Clifford's tensed expression eased slightly, Hunter's grin widened as he added, "I'm just someone who happens to be voluntarily winning her over—Noelle's admirer."

Clifford's face fell.

"What!" Lola covered her mouth as her eyes darted between Hunter and Noelle in disbelief. Then, she said with feigned embarrassment, "Don't you know she's a mother of a five-year-old? Other than cooking and cleaning, she knows nothing else—"

"I'm not that vain," Hunter said, mercilessly cutting her off in a cold voice. "You, on the other hand, just happened to pick through her trash. What's so noble about that?"

"How dare you!" Lola paled, but she forced herself to stay composed around Clifford and muttered, "Mr. Fuller, let's head back. Everyone's waiting for us."

Clifford's eyes were bloodshot as he glared at Noelle. Then he scoffed, "Noelle, dragging some men in to play-act for you won't get my attention. I'd suggest you quit the games and just admit you were wrong."

That night, Noelle had been overtaken by the effect of alcohol, and the private room had been dimly lit. So she hadn't recognized Hunter.

Flustered, she blurted out, "Hunter, have you been reduced to making a living off that kind of work now?"

He blinked, then broke into laughter. Instead of trying to explain, his eyes sparkled with a mischievous glee as he looked at her. "Maybe. Will you take pity on me and come by more often?"

Noelle was too embarrassed to play along. Her cheeks were burning as she pushed lightly against his chest, but her tone was serious as she replied, "Relying on your looks won't get you anywhere. If you'd like that, you could come back to the racing team with me. Just… stop doing that."

Hunter let out a low chuckle. "Alright, your wish is my command. I'll be in your care, Noelle."

He extended his hand, and when she reached out to shake it, his fingers intertwined with hers.

While she was stunned, he lowered his head and brushed a light kiss across her fingers. "But if you ever want to request me, I'm always available. I'll serve no one else but you."

All Noelle could think about was what she'd said to him that night.

How had it just happened to be him, out of all people?
