The next morning, Noelle's assistant brought her breakfast. She checked everything carefully before eating, just to be safe.
When she came downstairs, reporters from media outlets had been waiting for a while. The moment they saw her appear in a mask, they rushed forward for interviews.
Asher quickly stepped in front of her and apologized. "Apologies, but Quake won't be taking questions. Please don't crowd.
"The modification challenge is about to start, so let's not add pressure to her."
It wasn't tough to guess why he feared Noelle being interviewed; he was terrified of blowing the disguise. The more she said, the greater the risk of mistakes, so nothing could go wrong as long as she stayed quiet.
But this modification challenge was being streamed live worldwide, and livestreams were gradually flooded with viewers.
Noelle gently pushed Asher aside and gestured for him not to worry. Then, she turned to face the lead reporter and said with poised confidence, "First, I'd like to thank the Morianese companies for their invitation and challenge.
"I'm glad they recognize my abilities and attach so much importance to this modification challenge. I believe this also represents their regard for the strength of Stonegate's automotive industry."
She smiled faintly and continued, "I also hope that during the upcoming modification challenge, they can compete with style and power. It'd be a shame if their trip is in vain, and they leave empty-handed."
The crowd of reporters around her gasped. The last sentence was blatant provocation, and only Quake was capable of talking to foreign guests like that.
Off to the side, Asher hadn't expected her sheer audacity either and grew anxious. Thankfully, she didn't say more and followed him backstage for preparations.
Leaning close, Asher lowered his voice and whispered in her ear, "Wasn't what you said too much, Ms. Lucy? Won't they take offense?"
Noelle arched a brow and shot him a mocking look. "They're already here to push us around, and yet you're still worried about offending them. Aren't you being too… cautious, Mr. Miller?"
For a second, she almost said cowardly, but decided it would be too hurtful. So, she figured not to say it out loud, especially since Asher was the rather fragile type.
Asher's expression changed slightly, but the confident air Noelle had just radiated stirred a strange feeling in him. It was as if Lucy, before him, was the true Quake and not an imposter.
"Hello, Quake. Long time no see." Bruce from Novara Group smiled at Noelle.
Deep down, Asher's heart skipped a beat. If they knew each other, what should he do if Lucy's identity was exposed?
Just as he was about to speak, he heard Noelle laugh and say, "It's been years, Bruce, and you've aged quite a bit. Novara Group must have kept you busy."
Off to the side, Asher was stunned. The way the two spoke sounded like old acquaintances, and no one else could get a word in.
"Still joking, I see," Bruce replied in a calm tone, but the edged provocation was unmistakable. "You're the reason I look so aged. You stood me up back then, and I've been thinking about it and waiting for a rematch ever since. Today's finally the day."
Everyone present could feel that today's challenge would be a tough battle. The audience held its breath and waited for the start as the president of the National Racing Association delivered a speech on stage.
On-site and watching through the livestream, countless eyes eagerly waited for the announcement of the challenge topic.
