Noelle decided that she would submit Hunter's profile and make sure he could return to training before having Jude contact him directly.
As for her and Hunter, their paths probably wouldn't cross much from now on. Whatever flicker of intimacy there had been, she'd see it as nothing more than a fleeting dream.
…
The next morning, Noelle woke up at 6:00 am for a run, while official camp training was scheduled to start at 9:00 am. Her endurance was lacking, and her stamina was nothing like what it used to be, so she was determined to close the gap.
Perhaps because she'd been inactive for so long, she was already feeling the strain after just an hour.
After finishing her stretches, she headed back to her dorm for a shower, only to realize that the training gear she'd left hanging outside the night before was gone.
It'd been there when she'd left for her run, so it must have disappeared while she was out running.
She immediately searched the trash cans. Sure enough, she found the training gear inside, but it was shredded into pieces with scissors.
She picked up the ruined gear and went to Alexis, who was heading to breakfast with the rest of Flame Speed Racing. The sight of Noelle immediately put Alexis on edge.
After last night, the video of their race had been discussed endlessly in the main group chat. Her reputation as Flame Speed Racing's top racer was in tatters.
Suddenly, Noelle threw a bunch of shredded gear right at Alexis' face. Alexis gave her a puzzled look and yelled, "What the hell are you doing!"
When she noticed the destroyed training gear, she immediately realized what was going on and clarified. "This wasn't me!"
She fought her battles on the racing track and would never resort to such underhanded tricks.
Crossing her arms, Noelle coolly replied, "I know it wasn't you, but you're responsible for fixing it."
Alexis nearly jumped up in rage. "On what grounds!"
Noelle's lips curled up in a faint smile. "Because you're my assistant. I'm not going to investigate who ruined my clothes, but as my assistant, it is your job to fix it. If you can't, I'll just wear yours."
She adopted a tone even more shameless than Alexis' and continued, "From now on, I'll come after you for whoever targets me. You're my assistant, aren't you?"
As Alexis' expression darkened, Noelle smiled gently and added, "Have it mended by noon, or I'll be wearing your training gear."
Thinking he was serving justice, Jayden had snuck out early that morning while no one was about and cut up the training gear. He believed he'd gotten away with it perfectly and was confident Noelle wouldn't discover who it was.
He never expected Noelle to confront Alexis right away.
"Don't be stupid," Hazel whispered. "Alexis has offended Noelle, and if you confess now, you'll just make Alexis hate you."
Jayden looked torn, so Hazel reassuringly said, "Don't worry. Wait until this all blows over to tell her, and she'll forgive you. After all, you did it for her, and if she can't understand that, wouldn't that make her far too unreasonable?"
She played the part of an understanding older sister perfectly, but her mind was elsewhere.
In one week, each team in the training camp would hold elections for a captain. It might seem like an insignificant title, but the captains would get priority for every race lineup.
Until now, Alexis' skill and forceful personality had made her the obvious choice. But now, Noelle had arrived.
Once the conflict between the two erupted, neither of them would earn the captain's seat.
That thought lit a spark of motivation in Hazel.
