Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 54

"What's going on?" someone shouted.

"What happened?" another asked.

The members of Flame Speed Racing stumbled out of their bunks one after another, and soon half the campground lights flicked on.

At that moment, Tina's two young apprentices ran out of their tent. One clutched her swollen eye, while the other grabbed her backside.

"There's a snake!" one screamed.

"There's a toad!" the other wailed.

With the lights blazing, everyone finally saw them. One girl's eye was swollen shut, leaving only a thin slit. She looked half-blind. The other clutched her rear and sobbed, as if the pain might kill her.

Some of the braver crew members grabbed tools from the maintenance shed and went into the tent to check.

It would have been better if they hadn't looked. Inside, they found not only snakes and toads but also rats.

It was obvious someone had planted them there on purpose.

Tina, woken by the uproar, stepped out with a dark expression. She had sent her two apprentices to slip those creatures into Noelle's tent to frighten her, but instead of stirring trouble on Noelle's side, it had backfired spectacularly. Noelle's camp was perfectly calm, while her own people were the ones in chaos.

A crew member hurried over to the director, Elijah Maxwell, and reported anxiously, "There are venomous snakes in there. It looks dangerous. We have to get them to a hospital immediately."

However, they were stranded high up in the mountains. The night was pitch black, and no one knew how long it would take to reach a hospital safely.

Elijah was already exhausted after a long day, and his patience snapped. He barked at the production manager to arrange a car and get the two injured apprentices to treatment right away.

Luther Sutton, the manager, shot Tina a frustrated look.

He had been instructed by the higher-ups to teach Noelle a lesson during this shoot and to make sure she suffered a little.

That was why he had left the dirty work to Tina.

Since Tina was just a temporary hire from the ad agency, any fallout would land on her, not him.

Still, Luther quickly ordered people to drive the two apprentices down the mountain. He just prayed no one would die from this, or the consequences would be disastrous.

His gaze turned cold as he glared at Tina.

"Why were there so many filthy things in that tent?" he demanded.

That thought was unsettling. Even if someone wanted to teach a lesson, would they really go so far?

At the mention of Noelle, people suddenly realized she was nowhere among her teammates.

Hazel whispered, "Where's Ms. Quinn? With all this noise, how could she not have heard anything?"

No matter how deeply Noelle was sleeping, there was no way she hadn't heard all the commotion outside.

Jayden frowned in confusion. "Did something happen to her? Shouldn't one of you check?"

That question left everyone hesitant. Since Noelle was a woman, it wasn't proper for the men to enter her room, which meant one of the women had to do it.

Summoning her courage, Hazel knocked softly. "Ms. Quinn, are you awake?" she called.

There was no response from inside. The door wasn't even locked.

Hazel pushed it open gently, only for a rat to dart out from underneath.

She screamed and stumbled back in fright.
