Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 86

Noelle was shown to the dimly lit interrogation room. A bottle of water sat on the table in front of her, and the two officers who escorted her walked out after she entered.

A few moments later, Maxine walked in, dressed in professional attire.

Rocking a blue uniform, her face was stern and unreadable. She looked surprisingly young—early 20s at most—and wore minimal makeup. Her demeanor was sharp and commanding.

She looked like she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, the kind who always won at life.

Maxine looked at Noelle and opened her laptop. "Your name."

Noelle met Maxine's gaze calmly. "Noelle."

Maxine asked for her basic information and started taking notes. "It says here you just got divorced, and your child lives with your ex-husband. How did you end up getting into the training camp?"

Noelle could tell Maxine had some grudge against her for some reason.

But no matter how hard she tried to remember, she was certain she had never seen Maxine before, let alone done anything to offend Maxine. "Isn't this investigation about me and Hunter? I don't have to answer questions outside of that."

Even though Noelle was calm and collected, her quiet confidence was unmistakable. She stood her ground against Maxine's authority.

Maxine snickered. "Sounds like you pulled some strings to be part of the national team, Ms. Quinn. Our task force investigates unfair practices in the team.

"I have the authority to question you, and you have the obligation to cooperate. Don't worry about it. We're gathering evidence from multiple sources, and you won't be the only one we talk to."

Basically, it was a warning to Noelle not to even think about lying. They would be questioning everyone around her to get the full story.

Noelle shrugged. "Alright then."

With Maxine putting it that bluntly, what else could she even do?

She grinned before continuing, "You realize how impressive Hunter is, don't you? Besides being a national team coach, he's also the CEO of a gaming company. His potential is huge. I'm sure you don't want to ruin that for him."

Her gaze was filled with contempt. "How long would it take for you to earn five million dollars? Even if you're amazing at racing, you'll be 30 years old soon. How many more races do you have in you? The national team brings in fresh blood every year."

Her tone was full of mockery. "All you have to do is sign here, and your life won't be so hard anymore. I could even recommend you as a regional coach. Being a coach has to be easier than being a racer, right? I heard you walked away from your divorce with nothing."

She smirked with a condescending look. "I get why you're trying to land a guy like Hunter, but he's way out of your league."

Noelle looked up at Maxine. "You like Hunter, and you know him."

That wasn't up for debate. It was the truth.

Maxine put down her paper and pen, closed the laptop, and stood up. "His parents see me as their future daughter-in-law. Do yourself a favor and sign it."

She looked at the dimly lit room and snorted. "This place isn't exactly cozy."
