Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 95

"My wife," Clifford said, walking up to her with worry written all over his face. "I heard you're under investigation. I came as soon as I could. I'm here to bring you home." He reached for Noelle's hand.

Noelle wrenched her hand away and warned him, "Clifford Fuller! Have you forgotten we got divorced a long time ago?"

He was still calling her his wife—where did he even get the nerve?

Clifford's expression stiffened at her reaction, surprised by how little regard she showed for him.

He quickly smoothed over his features and smiled. "Since you can't stay with the racing team anymore, come home with me. I'll give you some company shares. Zayne misses you terribly, too. I'll give you anything you want, as long as you return."

Noelle sensed something was off with him. Someone as self-centered as Clifford would never humble himself just to ask her to return.

She deliberately spoke coldly, "You set up a racing team for Lola. You clearly care deeply about her. Does she know you came looking for me?"

For a split second, panic flashed across his face, but it vanished almost instantly.

"I didn't do it for her. I was backed into a corner with no way out. The companies that were partnering with Thunderscape Group pulled out on me. I had no choice but to start the racing team myself," Clifford said.

He added, "Besides, Lola's capable. I put her in charge of managing the racing team so she could help bring in money for us. That way, you and Zayne could have a better life."

It all clicked for Noelle then. So, that was why Clifford came to see her. She had guessed as much.

Thunderscape Group's current operations were all built to support the partnerships with these car manufacturers. Clifford had assumed only a few of them would refuse to partner with him. He never expected all of them to pull out.

Previously, he had gone to great lengths to curry favor with Divine Group. But after Eric was promoted, he made it clear that he wouldn't work with Clifford. He even said that things turned out this way because Clifford had offended Noelle.

He had no idea how Noelle managed to secure such connections.

Still, he counted on the fact that they had once been husband and wife. As long as Noelle returned to his side, all the lost partnerships could be salvaged.

Maintaining a racing team would cost a fortune. By now, his funds were starting to run low.

Noelle smiled wryly. "The truth is, even at his worst, Hunter is hotter, younger, and in better shape than you."

She said each word deliberately, then averted her gaze. "He's a thousand times… no, ten thousand times better than you."

Noelle walked away wordlessly without looking back. This time, there was truly no turning back.

Even if she and Hunter weren't officially together, in her heart, he was far better than Clifford.

Clifford's eyes reddened from anger. Just then, his phone rang and he answered the call.

Zayne's voice came through. "When are you coming home, Dad? Ms. Perez has been waiting all night for you."

Clifford hadn't heard the footsteps behind him. Before he could react, a sack was slipped over his head from behind.

He struggled for a moment before a few people dragged him to a secluded area and beat him up mercilessly.
