As the call connected, the heated passion in Kieran's gaze gradually faded as he listened to the speaker.
His voice was low, and Lila couldn't quite catch what Cole was saying, except for a few mentions of Falkoria.
She recalled that earlier that day, Kieran had been looking for a new way out. Falkoria had long been dominant in the West, and if they sanctioned Morgan Group's development, other smaller countries would likely follow suit with similar restrictions.
Though Lila didn't fully understand the business world, she knew that cooperation with Falkoria was crucial to secure a foothold in the international market.
After ending the call, Kieran noticed her concern. He lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
"Sorry, Lila. I won't be able to stay with you tonight. There are some things I need to handle. Go to bed early; don't wait for me."
Lila understood his priorities. "Drive safe."
Kieran nodded. He grabbed a fresh shirt, picked up his suit jacket, and headed out.
Listening to the sound of his car starting outside, Lila sat there for a while before getting up to wash up.
That night, Kieran did not return home.
The next morning, Lila got up and splashed cold water on her face to wake herself up. She told herself to give Kieran more time; to believe in him.
If it didn't work out in the end…
Lila shook her head. No!
…
At the top floor of Morgan Group Headquarters, Kieran had worked through the night.
Inside the president's office, there was a private bedroom where he finally allowed himself to lie down and rest. However, less than half an hour later, Cole, with dark circles under his eyes, knocked on the door and entered.
"Mr. Morgan, Granduncle Stefan is here."
Kieran pinched the space between his nose, then rinsed his face with cold water. Stepping out of the room, he saw Stefan seated on the sofa.
Kieran gave a slight nod. "Granduncle."
An arranged marriage to Faith?
So, Stefan wasn't just here to help. He was here to pressure Kieran into marrying for the sake of securing the Moore family's backing?
But what about Ms. Hart?
This old man was a big bully! Was he taking advantage of the fact that Branson was no longer around to blatantly oppress Lila like this?
Cole anxiously turned to look at Kieran.
Logically, he knew he shouldn't doubt Kieran's decision. But having to choose between power and love was a difficult task for most men.
Yet, to his surprise, Kieran didn't even hesitate before saying, "Morgan Group has always had the nation's support. Whether or not my family has political connections is irrelevant.
"No matter how great Ms. Moore may be, she has nothing to do with me. I ask that you stop insisting on this matter."
Stefan took a deep breath. "Let's see how long you can hold out!"
