too late for a second chance novel (Lila and Dorian) novel Chapter 495

Lila had placed her dessert order ahead of time and even left work a little early. Halfway there, she decided to make a detour to a nearby cafe. Remembering how Kieran always told her to cut back on sugar, she asked the staff to make her fruit tea with only half the usual sweetness.

When she arrived at Morgan Group, the receptionist greeted her warmly. Lila nodded at them in acknowledgement and took the elevator straight to the top floor.

As she turned the corner, she was surprised to find Cole waiting outside the office. That was odd. As Kieran's personal assistant, there wasn't much that should be off-limits to him.

Cole looked equally surprised to see her. "What brings you here, Madam?" He had already grown accustomed to addressing her properly.

Lila lowered her voice slightly. "Is there an important client inside?"

"Not exactly. It's Mr. Stefan and the Moore family's representative, Ms. Faith Moore."

Her brows lifted slightly in curiosity. Lila glanced at the closed office door. "Then, why are you waiting outside?"

"Mr. Stefan kicked me out," he muttered, sounding slightly indignant.

Lila frowned, immediately displeased by Stefan's actions. She hadn't taken issue with him proposing an arranged marriage as a condition to help Kieran.

Business was business—negotiations were meant to be straightforward. He could make his offer, and Kieran had every right to accept or reject it.

But Cole was Kieran's assistant. Morgan Group belonged to Kieran. How dare Stefan throw him out? And more importantly—why had Kieran allowed it?

Noticing her frown, Cole hesitated before asking, "Madam, is it urgent? Should I let Mr. Kieran know you're here?"

"We're done," Kieran chimed in.

Faith glanced at him in mild surprise but nodded. "For the most part. There are still some minor details to sort out, but they're not urgent. I can stop by another day to finalize everything."

Stefan let out a disdainful snort. "In that case, we'll be heading out then." He turned to leave but then hesitated, looking back at Kieran. "Kieran, you're the most capable one in our family. At your age, your focus should be on your career."

Without waiting for Kieran to respond, he walked out, leaning on his cane. Faith politely said goodbye and followed him out.

As soon as they were gone, Lila placed her things on the desk and turned to Kieran, her eyes narrowing in irritation. Cole, sensing the shift in atmosphere, chuckled to himself before quietly excusing himself from the room.
