Ana’s POV
I had figured it out. Dominique was the more vocal, but not the smarter, of the two women. It wasn’t the first time that she had done something like this. She always tried to act like she was innocent, preferring others to take the fall for her. She’s done this for a while, and it’s worked for her all this time.
Katherine was still pretty stunned at being hit.
Dominique just realized that Katherine had been using her, and I guess she didn’t take it very well. I don’t blame her at all, because this probably wasn’t the first time that Katherine had done her like this. Realization had hit, and she was understandable angry. I would be too.
It’s not a great feeling knowing that you’ve been taken advantage of and used. Especially when you believed the lie she told you in order to get you to play along. Now that I know why she helped, I feel a little bad for her. I knew how hard people took my brother’s engagement and marriage. Dominique wanted to believe the lie so badly that she was willing to do anything to make it true. I watched as tears started falling on Dominique’s cheeks.
“I can’t believe that you would do this to me.
You are a horrible person, Katherine. I always defended you to others. I honestly thought that you were trying to help me, to help Seth, find a way out of this forced marriage. I thought he needed me and would someday learn to care for me. You tricked me into going along with your plan, just so you could have him instead.
Well, your family is on shakier ground than mine is, isn’t it, Katherine? We will be able to take the blow that losing the contracts with the Caldwells will bring. But your family won’t. I hope your punishment is being married off to an older man who needs heirs. I hope you get hit with an iron-clad prenup. One where you have to give him at least two children written into it, to keep you from wiggling out of it. If he doesn’t think about it, I’ll make sure a little bird gives him a heads up. I wont let you hurt me and my family with no repercussions,” Dominique angrily stated.
Katherine was stunned by what Dominique said and barely managed to say, “What?”
“Your family’s company is about to collapse, go broke, fail to exist, unless something drastic happens. It’s good that you look so presentable tonight, Katherine. That’s a great plus for tonight. Your parents need to make sure you get seen, so you can go to the highest bidder.
I’m actually glad that your actions are going to come back on you, and so spectacularly. May I leave, so I can go speak to my father to warn him?” Dominque asked respectfully.
“I think that would be a good idea,” I replied.
Rita moved away from the door to allow her to leave. Dominique left without her bodyguard.
Katherine moved towards the door, but Rita stepped back into place.
“Oh, I’m afraid that you’re going to stay in here with us for a few minutes. Dominique will need a head start to tell her parents, and then to go find yours to let them know. I think that the very least we can do is help her out,” my mother stated. She thought for a minute and called out,
“Reid, I think that given the situation, it should just be Katherine’s family who bears the brunt of this. She was the one who came up with the plan and tricked Dominique into doing this. She intentionally played on her crush to get her to go along. I think having to tell her parents exactly what she’s done will be punishment enough for Dominique. I’m sure they will punish her for her actions, but the one who caused this whole thing was Katherine.”
The door opened, and my father stood just outside. “I think you’re right. I heard what was said, and I agree with it. I just sent off a correction to my assistant. Only the contracts with the Hughes family will be ended. I’ll continue to work with the Wallace family in the future. Dominique was used, and I think the punishment that she just came up with is perfect. I’m sure that they will have to do just that to keep their business afloat.”
“You can’t do that to me. I don’t deserve it.
Seth, please help me. You can’t have me married off to someone I don’t like or want to be with,” Katherine’s shrill voice filled the room.
“You want me to save you from the same outcome you wanted me to suffer. How ironic,”
Seth scoffed.
