“Even in their own fashion circle, that famous guy… what’s his name… Quentin Foster, yes, that’s him! Even he praised Isabella’s immense talent and beautiful designs. He even wanted to take her on as his protégé!”
After Mrs. Cooper finished, she shot a defiant glance at Liliana and sneered, “Do you have that kind of talent?”
Liliana just smiled.
She looked at Isabella thoughtfully, her voice laced with meaning. “Old Mr. Foster said he wanted to take you on as his protégé?”
“I was at the birthday party that day. How come I didn't hear anything about that?”
Isabella’s face fell. She had only said that to save face, thinking she could use Mr. Foster’s name as a marketing gimmick for her new company. No one would actually check, and most people would just play along to be polite. Who would care if it was true?
But she never expected this meddling old woman, Mrs. Cooper, to be foolish enough to use it as a weapon against Liliana!
Fearing Liliana would expose her lie and leave her open to ridicule, Isabella had to find a way. She clutched her head and said weakly, “Mom, I suddenly have a headache. My chest feels tight, and I can’t catch my breath.”
Mrs. Cooper was startled and rushed to her side. “Isabella, what’s wrong? Is it happening again?”
“Quick, have your brother take you to the hospital. You can’t delay this.”
“I’m fine…” Isabella looked up with teary eyes, gently shaking her head. Her voice was soft and delicate. “It’s probably just all the stress from today. My body feels overwhelmed. I’ll be okay after I rest for a bit. There’s no need to trouble him.”
Her words only fueled Mrs. Cooper's anger.
She glared at Liliana, her tone dripping with displeasure. “This is all your fault! You’re the one who stressed Isabella out and caused this! Apologize to her right now!”
“If you don’t apologize, this isn’t over! And you, Father, stop playing favorites. She’s pushed Isabella to the point of a relapse. Have some compassion for your own granddaughter! For the sake of Isabella’s parents, stop letting her be wronged because of Liliana.”
