Linton let out a cold laugh. "Go on, try it. I'd like to see who's blind enough to even think about stealing my woman."
"Could you stop being so damn possessive?"
Liliana truly couldn't stand him anymore.
She felt suffocated, cornered. She had said everything there was to say, but the stubborn bastard just wouldn't let go.
With a frown creasing her brow, she snapped, her voice edged with irritation, "This is pointless, Linton. Do you have to push me? Will you finally be happy when you've pushed me to my breaking point?"
"Don't say that," Linton said, his heart aching. He reached for her. "A couple is supposed to face hardships together. We just need to work on things, and we can solve any problem."
"Then why shouldn't I just find someone who's right for me from the start? Someone who will cherish me, love me, and put me before anything else in the world?" she retorted, looking at him as if he were insane. "Why should I have to settle? Are you and your family really worth me debasing myself and swallowing my pride?"
Linton was struck dumb.
He lowered his gaze, unable to think of a single reason that could persuade her to change her mind.
After a long silence, he gripped her hand tighter, a hint of panic in his voice as he tried to soothe her. "Liliana, you can't bear to leave me. You've loved me for so many years; you're used to having me around."
"Once you've cooled down, you'll see things clearly."
Liliana nodded. "I've always seen things clearly, Linton. And you can't stop me."
"The people in this country might be afraid to cross you, but I can find a new boyfriend abroad. The point is, I can always find someone better suited for me than you."
Linton didn’t take it well, his deep eyes brewing a storm of dangerous intent. "Then you go right ahead and try."
