Mrs. Cooper was left speechless.
Still holding her back, Linton turned to Liliana. "I'll have my mother compensate your company's security guard for his medical bills. Just have someone send over the invoice."
His voice dropped lower. "Later... there's something I need to talk to you about. We need to have a real conversation."
Linton's deep-set eyes were inscrutable, filled with a profound and somber emotion that was both impossible to read and intensely pressuring.
His gaze made Liliana inexplicably nervous. To be honest, she never expected Linton to show up today and, for her sake, send his own mother abroad. But that didn't mean she was going to soften, to forgive him and go back to him.
Liliana had never believed one could put the pieces of a broken mirror back together. Once shattered, it was shattered forever. No matter how skillfully you glued it, the cracks would always remain.
There was no going back. Once certain things happened, they could never be undone.
Liliana opened her mouth to speak. For once, seeing as he had finally done something decent, her tone was surprisingly calm.
"You should take your mother home. There's nothing for us to talk about."
With that, she turned and walked away without a hint of hesitation.
Linton stared at her retreating figure, his eyes darkening. He said nothing, simply turning and forcibly leading his wailing mother away.
The drama finally subsided.
That afternoon, as work resumed, Liliana was about to return to her office when she ran into Aiden, who was just leaving his.
He stopped, his voice warm with concern. "Liliana, I heard there was some trouble at the company this morning."
Liliana nodded. "It wasn't a big deal. It's been handled."
She didn't want to elaborate, but Aiden gently pressed on. "Liliana, the staff is quite concerned about you. I heard from them that it was Linton's mother."
