Linton didn’t try to hide it.
He looked up at Liliana, his deep eyes holding a complex, unreadable darkness. “Isabella is missing. She took Logan with her, and they’ve both disappeared. Liam is looking into it, but there’s no news yet. However... Liam’s theory is that she’s probably taken Logan and gone to Edward. They’re abroad.”
Linton paused. “Right here.”
Liliana’s mouth fell open, and she frowned. She was genuinely surprised.
Isabella had vanished with Logan? What was she planning?
A bad feeling began to creep up on her, her heart beating a little faster. She took a step back, her voice cool. “If she and the child are here, then that’s all the more reason for me to go back home and stay put.”
Linton’s mouth opened, then closed. He frowned deeply, his expression complicated, as if he wanted to say more but couldn't.
Liliana looked up at him and held out her hand. “Give me my documents. I’m booking a flight to Crownport for tomorrow.” She paused, a mocking smile touching her lips. “And don’t bother with any of your usual excuses to stall and distract me. Don’t worry, you could talk until you’re blue in the face, and I still wouldn’t soften up.”
She looked at him with serious, focused eyes and said, enunciating each word, “Linton. When it comes to leaving you, I will not give up. So you can give up.”
The color drained from Linton’s face. He clenched his fists, the pain in his chest becoming unbearable.
He finally broke, frowning as a cough wracked his body. He couldn't stop, and worried about getting her sick, he turned away from her. He coughed until his tall, straight back was bent over, as if the weight of his pain was enough to break his spine.
