Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 190

“Is it related to Isabella?” Liliana asked.

After a moment, Linton said in a low, ambiguous tone, “...Not exactly.”

“Then it’s only related to you.”

Liliana’s mind was racing. A sudden realization dawning on her.

Once you stop thinking with your heart, your brain starts working again. Things that had been confusing before were suddenly becoming clear.

A faint, mocking smile touched her lips. “So, it’s dangerous for me back home, but it has nothing to do with Isabella. She’s run off with the child to a foreign country, Edward’s territory, which should be even more dangerous for me. And yet, you’re still trying to stop me from going home.”

“Linton.” Liliana suddenly spun around and faced him, her expression calm. “I’m giving you one last chance. Tell me the truth. What have you been hiding from me all these years? What is it back home that you’re so afraid of, something that can threaten my safety, but that you don’t dare tell me about?”

She realized then that she still knew him, damn it.

She knew him all too well. When she had been hopelessly in love with him, she couldn’t see things clearly. But thinking about it now, there had always been clues, subtle hints of his strangeness that should have warned her.

He was hiding something from her. Not just for a month or a year. For many years. So long that the truth, when it finally came out, would probably be unbelievable.

Linton stared at her, his deep eyes a swirling vortex of indecipherable complexity. He remained silent for a long time, unable to find the courage to speak.

The seconds ticked by.

Liliana’s patience wore thin. She abruptly turned her head away. “If you don’t want to talk, then don’t. Don’t force yourself. It’s not like I absolutely have to know.”
