Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 239

As they ate, Mrs. Hart kept glancing out the window. Liliana placed a piece of ham in her mother's bowl. "Mom, let's eat," she said with a smile.

Mrs. Hart sighed and looked out the window again. "Liliana, we can't just let him stand out there all night..."

Liliana followed her mother's gaze. Linton was standing under a large tree outside their apartment building. He stood ramrod straight, like a statue, his gaze fixed on their window. In the darkness, he looked like a large, lonely dog, and you could almost imagine a tail wagging behind him, trying to curry favor.

Liliana calmly looked away, stood up, and pulled the curtains shut. Out of sight, out of mind.

"..." Mrs. Hart looked like she wanted to say something but held her tongue. She let out another soft sigh, picked up her bowl, and muttered under her breath, "Hmph. A little late for that now, isn't it?"

"What was that, Mom?" Liliana asked, looking up in confusion.

"Oh, nothing," Mrs. Hart said quickly, placing a piece of stir-fried bamboo shoots in Liliana's bowl. "Let's eat. Here, this is your favorite."

She secretly watched her daughter's expression. Seeing her calm and emotionless, Mrs. Hart sighed again and glanced back toward the window. That Cooper boy... he couldn't possibly be foolish enough to stand out in the snow all night, could he?

The next morning, Liliana went out to take out the trash. As soon as she opened the door, she saw a tall "snowman" standing under the large tree near their apartment.

Her whole body locked up.

Linton, nearly delirious from the cold, heard the door open. His snow-covered lashes fluttered, and his eyes shot open. Through a hazy blur, he saw the girl he had been dreaming of, and his eyes lit up with a brilliant glow, like a dying tree suddenly infused with vigorous life.

His body was stiff and numb from the cold. He tried to walk toward Liliana, toward his girl, but his legs were frozen in place, completely without feeling.

After a moment of surprise, Liliana quickly averted her gaze and walked past him without a second glance. A thought flickered through her mind: *Is he insane? Who is this tragic act for?*

When she returned from throwing out the trash, she found an ambulance parked in front of her building. Paramedics and a doctor were working together to lift someone onto a stretcher. As she got closer, she could hear them speaking urgently.
