His gentle, watery tone sent a shiver down Liliana's spine. She forced a chuckle and turned back. “What are you talking about, Aiden? Of course not.”
Despite her words, she practically fled, moving faster than anyone. Like a rabbit darting for cover, she clutched her waist and hurried back to her office. If it weren't for the pregnancy, she would have broken into a full sprint.
Aiden slowly retracted his gaze and joked to Lynn, “Doesn’t your boss remind you of a little turtle?”
Lynn, not quite following, looked confused. “Huh?”
Aiden just smiled without another word. A little turtle that liked to retreat into its shell. Fine by him. A little turtle was cute, too.
Aiden raised his wrist to check the time, planning to head back to his office to work on some drafts. Just as he was about to leave, he remembered something. He turned back to Lynn, his smile gentle as he gave her an instruction.
“When you have a moment, could you buy me a small turtle? Get a tank for it, too, and put it in my office. Just let me know how much it costs, and I’ll reimburse you.”
Lynn was taken aback but quickly nodded. “Oh, okay, Mr. Grant.” She didn't think much of it, assuming he was just in the mood to keep a pet in the office. She smiled and offered a suggestion. “Would you like to keep fish, Mr. Grant? A lot of people like having fish in their offices.”
Aiden smiled back gently. “Do turtles eat fish?”
Lynn blinked. “I... think so.”
Aiden pondered for a moment, then nodded. “Alright then. Buy a few small fish as well and put them in the tank with the turtle.”
