Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 62

Liliana hesitated, then bit her lip. "If you can avoid getting physical… it’s probably for the best."

It would be ideal if Linton simply agreed to the annulment. If he refused and ended up getting a beating from his grandfather, well, that wouldn't be on her. She had tried to be reasonable. If it came to that, it would be his own damn fault.

After her talk with Old Mr. Cooper, Liliana prepared to leave the estate. Before she left, she couldn't help but cast another glance at the old man. Seeing his pale complexion and the way he winced, trying to suppress a cough, her heart softened.

"Grandpa, if you're not feeling well lately, please see a doctor. Don't just try to tough it out."

"It's nothing, just a small cold. A little medicine will clear it right up."

Old Mr. Cooper waved a dismissive hand, not wanting her to worry.

Liliana's hand rested on the doorknob, words caught in her throat. Finally, she sighed softly. "Alright, but once I get through the next few days, I'm taking you to the hospital myself."

She still wasn't at ease. But between annulling her engagement and launching her company, she was completely swamped. She reasoned that he looked stable enough for now; it probably wasn't anything serious. Reassured, she said her goodbyes and headed downstairs.

In the living room, only Linton remained.

He was lounging on the sofa, his tall, elegant frame relaxed, his head propped lazily on his right hand. A look of casual indifference was etched on his handsome, cool face. He seemed to have been waiting for her. Hearing her footsteps, he didn't even turn his head as he asked, his voice cool, "What did you and Grandpa talk about?"

Liliana slowly dragged her eyes away from him. "Why are you the only one here?"

Linton's gaze remained on his phone as he fiddled with it. "I sent them away. Didn't want to upset you."

At his words, she couldn't stop herself from looking at him again. That was Linton all over. Just when you thought he loved you, he’d slap you across the face. And just when you were convinced he didn't, he'd toss you a piece of candy, stringing you along, making you believe that maybe, just maybe, he did care after all.

Liliana was sick of it. She desperately wanted to ask him. Why did he let Isabella's son call him 'daddy'?
