Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 92

Linton was offering an olive branch, a way for them to reconcile. But all Liliana felt was irritation. The mere sight of his familiar, cold face made her skin crawl, a suffocating pressure building in her chest.

"If you really cared about me," she said, her voice sharp, "you'd stay away from me. I don't need you."

"That's ridiculous," Linton shot back. "Liliana, you've depended on me since we were kids. We've known each other for over twenty years. Who's taken care of you all this time? Me. Do you really think you'll be better off alone? Stop kidding yourself. You can lie to everyone else, but don't lie to yourself. You can't live without me."

His voice grew more agitated as he spoke, his eyes turning red with emotion. He stubbornly grabbed her hand, his gaze locked on hers. Liliana's lips twisted into a faint smirk. He wasn't entirely wrong. A habit formed over two decades was etched into her very bones. But in this world, no one was truly indispensable.

"I'll get used to it," she said calmly, looking up at the man before her. "I will leave you, and I will force myself to get used to a world without you. If one day isn't enough, I'll take two. If two days aren't enough, I'll take a year. If a year isn't enough, how about ten? A lifetime is a long time. Sooner or later, every trace of you will vanish from my world for good."

A sharp pain lanced through Linton's heart. His face went chalk-white, a thin sheen of sweat breaking out on his forehead. The summer night air was warm, but a chill washed over him, plunging him into an icy abyss. A sudden panic seized him, and he quickly softened his tone, his voice a low plea. "Liliana, don't say things like that just to hurt me. It really hurts me."

He clutched her hand, trying to press her warm palm against his chest so she could feel his frantic heartbeat, but she recoiled, pulling her hand away with a frown. "If it hurts you, if you don't want to hear it, then stay away from me. That way you won't have to."

But he just stared at her, his gaze unwavering, refusing to yield. Liliana had been in meetings all day and was exhausted. She had no energy for this endless drama. After a moment, she turned to Aiden, her face apologetic. "Aiden, I'm so sorry you had to see that."
