Too Late to Ask Too Late to Love (Julian and Eleanor) novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

So as soon as the break started, Eleanor rushed to get back to the city.

Since the cars were mostly for the actors, Eleanor had to find her own way to get a cab.

She planned to surprise Jason, so she hadn’t told him she had the day off.

She had three ridesharing apps open, all slowly searching for a driver with no luck, when an understated luxury Mercedes pulled up beside her.

The window rolled down, revealing Julian, whom she hadn’t seen outside the set in days.

On set, she could always feel his intense gaze on her, but when she was working, she could automatically block it out.

But it was different off the set.

Like right now. She couldn’t just ignore him, so she said politely, Mr. Blackwood.

It’s hard to get a cab this time of day. You’ll have to wait another two or three hours for a crew car to come back. Get in, I’ll take you back.

Eleanor hesitated for a moment, but got in the car anyway.

They were silent the entire ride.

Brandon, who was driving, kept glancing at the tense atmosphere in the back through the rearview mirror, breaking out in a cold sweat.

Just keep your eyes on the road.

Julian’s voice was cold. He lowered his gaze, his thick lashes casting a deep shadow, hiding the look he couldn’t tear away from the person beside him.

Eleanor watched the greenbelts and trees quickly receding outside, knowing the man beside her was watching her, but there was nothing she could do.

You never used to be this quiet.

The man spoke, as if reminiscing about the past.

Eleanor thought for a moment and said, I used to be loud. It’s natural to change the parts of yourself that people don’t like.

Before, when she was in a car with Julian, she would talk nonstop from the moment she got in until she got out, just to get his attention.

Thinking about it now, she really was a bit annoying.

What if I never thought you were loud, and I never disliked you?

A strange silence fell over the car.

After a long moment, she no longer cared that Brandon was in the car. She turned to him seriously and said coldly, Uncle, you were my uncle in the past, and you will only be my uncle now and in the future. I have a new life, and a boyfriend I care about and love very much. I hope we can put our past completely behind us. I was immature before. I shouldn’t have bothered you. I’m sorry.

Julian didn’t say anything, but the car screeched to a halt.

Sensing his boss’s murderous glare, Brandon stammered, We’rewe’re here

Eleanor glanced out the window, saw they had arrived at the hotel, and opened the car door.

When she was halfway out of the car, someone grabbed her wrist tightly.

But the voice behind her was pleading, You can’t stir up my feelings and then ask me to pretend it never happened.

Eleanor turned her head slightly, looking into Julian’s redrimmed eyes.

She had never seen him like this.

But she pried his hand away and said indifferently, I’m sorry that my seven years of foolishness caused you trouble. But aren’t you the one who acted like nothing ever happened, uncle?

At her words, the color drained completely from Julian’s face.

After Eleanor confessed, he was the one who had turned cold first.
