I never imagined that Ferris, who appeared cold and ruthless to outsiders, could have such a shameless side.
I had always thought he didn’t care about me at all.
But when he looked at me, what was hidden in those eyes… even I couldn’t tell anymore.
Looking at me lying beside him, he suddenly realized: if he could be with me from now on, maybe… it would all be worth it.
It wasn’t until dawn broke that I finally fell into deep sleep.
On the festival day, the Vargan family was lively as usual, with relatives gathering together to celebrate reunion as in previous years.
But this year was slightly different.
I had been brought back by Ferris.
Those who had heard the news early began gossiping privately again-
“I heard Aurora came back?”
“Tsk, why come back? This kind of woman should stay away once she’s gone.”
“Who knows if she’s shamelessly clinging on again?”
They whispered behind my back, waiting to see how I would embarrass myself this time, how I would try to please everyone at the festival banquet.
When I woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
As soon as I got up, I saw a formal dress and a set of expensive jewelry neatly arranged by the bedside.
I glanced at them, then looked away.
Instead of changing into that dress, I put on my own clothes and went downstairs.
Ferris was already waiting downstairs.
Seeing I hadn’t worn the prepared outfit, his dark eyes dimmed slightly, a flash of surprise crossing them: “You’re not wearing it?”
“I don’t want to attend your Vargan family’s festival banque.” I said straightforwardly.

Chapter 174
Ferris looked at me steadily: “Give me a reason.”
I asked back: “Do I need a reason for this?”
He walked in front of me, his tone low: “This year is different.”
But I instinctively stepped back: “I don’t want to go.”
How would it be different? Just another way to be humiliated.
After not seeing those people for a while, they probably had accumulated more nasty words to use against me.
He had originally wanted to personally bring me to the banquet – after all, during our wedding year, I had cried to him: “Other husbands hold their wives‘ hands and attend various occasions together, but I’m always alone.”
“Others have someone to rely on, only I always have to bear everything myself.”
But now, I was telling him – I didn’t need it anymore.
Perhaps I really no longer needed his protection.
Ferris’s hand froze in mid–air, his expression clearly stiffening.
He said coldly: “As you wish.”
Then he strode out of the room without looking back.
Without me there, he wouldn’t have to face those hypocritical, barbed looks.
At the banquet.
Camilla chatted with a group of women while discreetly observing every guest in attendance.
When she noticed Ferris appeared alone while I was absent, others began to talk.
“Camilla, didn’t you say she came back? Why don’t we see her?”
“Maybe Ferris doesn’t want her to come, afraid of embarrassment?”
Camilla shook her head, her expression complex: “I don’t know either.”
Her fingers gently caressed the wine glass, the red wine in the goblet swaying slightly.
She suddenly stood up: “I’ll step out for a moment, excuse me.”
After asking the servants and learning I was staying alone a Ferris’s residence, slie felt relieved to go over.
