Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 240

Julian’s voice cut through the room, cold and sharp. Raine froze. When she turned, she realized Julian had been sitting there all along, watching.

Helene looked furious, giving Raine a glare that basically called her an idiot.

Raine’s face went pale. “Mr. Grayson?” Her voice trembled. She tried to hide how terrified she felt, digging her nails into her palm just to keep herself grounded.

“Start from the beginning. Tell me exactly what happened tonight,” Julian said, his eyes locked on her. There was no warmth in his stare.

Raine started to shake. All that confidence she’d had earlier when she was complaining to Drew and Kate had totally vanished.

Why was Julian even here?

She glanced at Helene, desperate for help.

Helene’s heart skipped a beat, but she forced herself to look calm. She managed a shaky smile and said, “Raine, there’s no need to be scared. Was there some kind of misunderstanding? How did you end up… with those men?”

“It was Made—” Raine started.

Helene cut her off. “You said Ms. Monroe went to the hotel, but we didn’t see her at all. We only saw you, Raine. I know you and Ms. Monroe don’t get along, but she’s still your sister. It’s not right to accuse her like that. Because of what you said, we all got the wrong idea.”

Raine stared at her, lost.

Helene squeezed her hand, hard, signaling her to play along.

Raine was naïve, but she wasn’t a total fool. Helene was obviously trying to dump all the blame on her and then act like she had nothing to do with any of this.

But why should she?

Helene was the one who’d started this whole mess. Raine was the one who got hurt in the end. And now Helene wanted her to take the fall for everything.
