Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 487

It seemed there was nothing to be found on the shelves; Sophia rifled through the closet again, her search yielding not a single strand of hair.

Just as disappointment started to creep in, she turned and caught sight of a few hairs on Leah's desk.

She quickly snatched them up, noting they were nearly a perfect match to Leah's hair color.

Besides, no one but Leah had access to her bedroom. Even the housekeepers from the Melendez family, who tidied up the rooms, had strict instructions to always wear a cap.

Sophia gingerly pocketed the strands, but before she could slip away, the sound of footsteps approached.

Frozen in place, she was unsure of what to do next.

The bedroom door swung open before she could even think of a hiding spot.

The air filled with an awkward tension.

Leah, surprised to find her in her room, blinked in confusion, "Umm, can I help you with something?"

"Ah... Yes, I needed to discuss something with you..." Sophia offered an awkward, stiff smile. "I... just wanted to share some tips on talking with Emmett, right, right... that's it. I thought it'd be best to wait for you here, so no one else would overhear."

"Oh, I see," Leah replied with a polite smile, not letting on that she knew something was amiss.

Looking at Sophia's flustered expression, how could Leah believe her? But she decided to play along.

"Is your soup ready yet?" Sophia quickly changed the subject to cover her tracks.

"Yes, it's almost done, should be ready any minute now. Perfect timing for you to share your advice," Leah said, sitting down on the edge of her bed with demure grace.
