Under the Veil I Rule (Amara) novel Chapter 424

So, ignoring the two women completely, she walked straight to Larry. “Dad, I’m here.”

Larry grunted in acknowledgment, his eyes scanning her from head to toe with an approving gaze.

He had once disliked Amara. Her face wasn't pretty, and her timid, meek personality had struck him as useless.

But now, her looks were restored, her career was flourishing, and her calm, confident demeanor pleased him. Suddenly, everything about Amara seemed perfect in his eyes.

Amara sensed this shift in his attitude and knew she had to seize the opportunity. She made some small talk, first asking about his health, then chatting about her work. Their father-daughter relationship seemed warmer than it had been in years, and a faint smile touched Larry’s lips. Across the room, Fiona and Elowen watched, their faces so tight with rage they looked like they might shatter their teeth.

Just then, the front door opened again, and Finnian, dressed in a sharp suit, walked in.

Amara froze. What was Finnian doing here?

His eyes immediately found her as he entered, but he quickly looked away, striding over to Larry with a professional air and exchanging a few pleasantries.

Amara listened from the side, a frown creasing her brow.

From their conversation, it sounded like Larry had invited Finnian for dinner. Why would he do that? The two men barely knew each other.

No… wait. Amara suddenly remembered something.

At the last Everly family gala, Finnian and Larry had started a business collaboration. So they did have a connection.

“…”

Amara shot him an annoyed look and whispered back, “Why are you telling me that? Who you talk to is none of my business.”

Without waiting for his reaction, she turned and walked briskly into the dining room.

A few minutes later, everyone was seated. Larry sat at the head of the long table, with Fiona to his left and Elowen beside her. To Larry’s right was Amara, with Finnian seated next to her.

For a fleeting moment, it felt like a scene from before their divorce. This was exactly how they used to sit when they visited the Sullivan family for dinner.

But that had only happened once. In the three years they were married, Finnian had rarely come home, let alone made the customary visit to her parents after the wedding. That, she’d had to do alone.
