Amara’s brow was furrowed in frustration.
“Of course not! Keith and I are friends. Can you please stop making these wild accusations?”
“Besides,” she added, a new thought occurring to her, “if Keith and I really had a child together, why would I be hiding it? I would have married him by now. Are you stupid? Why do you keep misunderstanding us?”
Her anger was so palpable that Finnian knew she was telling the truth. A weight lifted from his chest.
But then he remembered that even if she hadn't been with Keith, she had still been with another man. She was still pregnant.
The pain in his heart returned with a vengeance.
“Amara, are you really going on a trip?”
Finnian suddenly recalled what Dorian had said the night before. He forced down the ache in his chest and looked her straight in the eye. “Or are you planning to leave to have the baby?”
“…”
She hadn't expected him to figure it out so quickly. After a moment’s thought, she nodded. “I’m going to keep the baby. I was planning to go somewhere else for my pregnancy and give birth there.”
Finnian was the last person she wanted to know, but now that he did, there was no point in hiding it.
Seeing the resolve in her eyes, Finnian clenched his fists, unable to hold back the words any longer. “Then stay here.”
Amara froze, turning to look at him.
“Don’t go,” he said. “Wye has the best medical care in the country. You can have the baby here.”
“Besides, all your friends and family are here. You’ll have support. You won’t be all alone in a strange city.”
“Are you hurt anywhere else?” she asked, glancing at his jacket.
She uncapped the antiseptic and dabbed it onto a cotton ball, gently cleaning his wounds before applying the ointment.
“My body’s fine, just a sore left arm, but nothing’s broken. That bastard hits hard… Ouch, that stings!”
Keith winced as the alcohol touched his open cut but held still.
Amara shot him a look and softened her touch, carefully treating his injuries.
He watched her silently for a moment before speaking. “You know, you should stay. Finnian knows you’re pregnant now, so there’s no one left to hide it from. Just stay in Wye.”
