Under the Veil I Rule (Amara) novel Chapter 459

Even though Amara had come out on top that day, the memory still angered her. She had no desire to see Emma ever again.

Emma stood by the bed, her expression dripping with scorn. “I heard you had an accident. I came to see if you were dead yet.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely outlive you. When I’m old, I’ll be sure to write down all the details of my long life and burn the letter for you, so you’ll know all about it in the afterlife.”

“…”

Emma was flabbergasted by Amara’s sharp tongue. She stared, her eyes wide with fury.

As Emma glared, Amara observed her closely.

She seemed to have come here purely to mock her about the kidnapping. It didn't look like she knew about the pregnancy. Amara relaxed slightly.

“Once your leg is healed, you’d better get the hell out of Wye,” Emma snarled. “Or I’ll have someone take care of you for good.”

Her words made Amara pause. Was Emma testing her?

Usually, people who made verbal threats like that were all talk. Someone who had actually done something would be trying to cover their tracks, not announce their intentions.

Was Emma deliberately saying this to make her think she wasn't behind the kidnapping?

It was just a theory. She couldn’t be sure. “I’ll stay wherever I want,” Amara said coolly. “You have no right to tell me what to do. You’re far too arrogant.”

Emma thought that if Finnian ever ended up with Amara, the woman’s sharp mouth would surely drive her to an early grave.

For that reason alone, she could never let Amara into the Everly family.

She was about to retort when one of her bodyguards knocked and entered without waiting for a reply. “Ma’am, it’s bad news. Mr. Everly has a fever.”

She placed a hand on his forehead. It was burning hot. “How did this happen?” she demanded.

Will, the butler, stood nearby. “Mr. Everly was up all night, so his immune system was weakened,” he explained in a low voice. “He then went for a run in the gym, took a cold shower, and sat in front of the air conditioner. That’s why he fell ill.”

“…”

Emma was furious. “Why was he running in the middle of the day instead of being at the office? And what time of year is it? He took a cold shower and blasted the A/C? Is he trying to kill himself?”

Will lowered his head. Mr. Everly hadn't been running; he'd been doing something else. But Will didn't know how to explain that to his mother, so he had improvised.

Then a thought struck Emma, and her eyes narrowed. “Why was he acting like this today? Is it because of Amara?”
