When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 2114

Denise had only requested five days off, but she had to extend it to search for Brycen and Calliope, and now her leave was over.

She immediately answered the call and talked briefly with her manager before looking at her parents apologetically. "Mom, Dad, please stay in the hospital. My boss wants me to go back to work."

"Okay, we will. Don't overwork yourself," Brycen said.

"I won't." Denise nodded heavily and called Magnus to leave with her.

Once outside, she asked Magnus what her parents said to him earlier.

Magnus didn't tell the truth this time, only saying, "Mr. and Mrs. Laney are afraid that I'll feel burdened by your family, so I made them a promise."

A hint of sadness flashed in Denise's eyes. "Oh, Mom and Dad really overthink things. Actually, I never planned on getting married, and I'm not afraid of being snubbed."

Magnus' heart inexplicably sank when he heard that she didn't plan on getting married.

"Why don't you want to get married? Isn't marriage good?" he asked.

Denise stopped walking. Looking into the distance, she said slowly, "Marriage is great, but I don't think I'm suited for it."

"What do you mean you're not suited for it? I think a woman like you is very marriageable. You're thrifty, you can cook and cleanβ€”you're a perfect wife and mother." After saying that, Magnus quickly explained, "I mean 'perfect wife and mother' as a compliment, not that you should be doing all the housework."

He overheard his colleagues talking about Denise at work, saying that she was a good woman.

After all, not many people would stay around to take care of their sick parents.

Denise gave a bitter smile. "There are many things you don't understand."

With that, she strode ahead.

Magnus rushed to catch up to her, grabbing her wrist. "What do you mean that I don't understand? If you're okay with it, let's get married."
