After the mess online had blown up, he’d dispatched a few bodyguards to station at Nishay’s floor. Anneliese also called the nurse to remind her to be extra cautious with her grandma and ensure she doesn’t answer any calls or scroll through the news.

Still, a pit of worry sat in Anneliese’s stomach. If Nishay caught wind of those rumors, she’d be devastated.

When the car came to a halt, Anneliese shifted and grasped Jonathan’s hand. She asked gently, “Do you want to come with me and visit Grandma?”

Jonathan smiled. “I didn’t bring anything for her, and I’ve got back–to–back meetings this afternoon. Today’s already been chaos.” She knew he wasn’t lying. The moment things had spiraled online, he’d dropped everything that morning–calls, meetings, deadlines–just to rush to her side. He’d been handling her mess all day. The least she could do was let him breathe.

She tried to smile. “Next time, then. Go handle work. I’ll be fine.”

She reached for the door handle, but his hand caught her wrist.

She blinked and turned back, thinking maybe he’d changed his mind.

He hesitated for a second, then pulled her close and pressed a kiss to her hair. “Thanks for understanding, honey.”

Her chest tightened. She nodded, exited the car, and watched his Bentley leave the hospital entrance. An unfamiliar unease settled in her–something she couldn’t quite identify. She shrugged it off and rushed inside.

When she reached Nishay’s ward, she found Jessica sitting by the bed, keeping her grandmother company. The two were laughing at a cheesy TV show, the sound warm and familiar.

Relief washed over Anneliese. She had worried that the nurse wouldn’t be enough to distract Nishay, so she asked Jessica to come by that morning.

“Grandma! I’m here!” she called out brightly. “Did you miss me?”

Nishay shot her a teasing look. “Miss you? Why would I? Jess kept me entertained.”

Jessica wrapped an arm around the old woman and flashed a smug grin. “Yeah, Grandma’s got me. You’ve been replaced.”

Anneliese caught Jessica’s quick wink–her way of saying the coast was clear. Nishay clearly hadn’t seen any of the online drama..

Relieved, Anneliese slid onto the bed and clung to her grandma’s other arm. “No way. Grandma, tell her you missed me even just a little!”

With both girls clinging to her, Nishay finally broke into laughter.

They chatted for a while until Nishay appeared sleepy. When she lay down to rest, the two girls quietly left the room.

The second the door closed, Jessica tugged Anneliese toward the stairwell.

“What’s wrong?” Anneliese asked.

Jessica didn’t answer right away. She crossed her arms, looked her up and down, and started circling like a defective examining a suspect.

Anneliese blinked in confusion as Jessica suddenly yanked at Anneliese’s collar and squinted at her neck. “Nothing to share, huh?”

Anneliese swatted her hand away and adjusted her collar. “Hey! What’s your problem?”

Jessica smirked. “Don’t act innocent. You slept with Jonathan, didn’t you? I could tell the second I saw you.”

Anneliese was completely thrown off.

After a few seconds of stunned silence, she gawked at Jessica. “Wait, what? How the hell could you tell that?”

Can she seriously tell just by looking? she wondered.

Jessica wiggled her brows. “Girl, please. You’re practically glowing. That dreamy walk, that dazed little smile–you’ve got ‘satisfied woman‘ written all over you.”

Earlier, she had tugged at Anneliese’s collar to verify her suspicion. One glance confirmed everything. Those faint marks told her all she needed to know.

So much for Mr. Perfectly Composed, she thought with a sly grin. Guess even the cool, collected ones have a wild side.

Figures. The more a guy looks buttoned–up and disciplined, the dirtier he is once the lights go out.

Jessica leaned in with a wicked grin. “So? How was it? Mr. Fullbuster looks like he’s got serious stamina–bet it was insane, huh?” Anneliese’s ears turned pink in an instant. She slapped a hand over Jessica’s mouth before she could go any further.

Still, she knew Jessica too well–this girl would keep poking until she got an answer. There was no escaping her relentless curiosity.

Anneliese bit her lip, her face still burning. “Fine. It was great, okay? Happy now?”

Jessica’s muffled giggles vibrated against her palm. She nudged Anneliese playfully until she finally let go, accompanied by a warning glare.

Just as she was about to ask Anneliese when she would finally introduce Jonathan to Nishay, her phone unexpectedly rang.
