Tara's mind was still foggy with confusion when Shawn scooped her up into his arms. A few seconds later, it was followed by a surge of panic.

He stopped in front of her and raised a hand to lightly brush her bangs.

"Don't be with him. Be with me," he said softly.

Her heart skipped a beat at the sentence. She hadn't misheard, had she?

"W-What do you mean?"

His fingers brushed behind her ear. She fought to suppress the shiver that ran through her as she stood frozen in place, looking at him with wide-eyed shock and disbelief.

"It's my fault for never telling you before. I like you—a lot. You can only stay by my side from today on," Shawn said gently.

Tara was so stunned that her mind went completely blank. She tried to run, but in an instant, Shawn wrapped his arms around her waist to prevent her from escaping.

Under her watchful gaze, Shawn lifted his hand to remove his gold-rimmed glasses and casually set them aside.

Tara tried to break free from his hold, but the more she struggled, the tighter he held her waist.

"I'm already with Lance, so I can't be with you," she said quickly. "Besides, you're friends with him, so you can't—"

Instead of listening to her protestations, he gently offered a solution. "Perfect. I'll call him, so that you can tell him you're breaking up with him to be with me."

Tara was dumbfounded. He was even worse than the refined villain described in the story. So, the novel had it right all along! Everything she had believed about him before was just a carefully crafted disguise.

"No, you can't do this, Mr. Wilhelm."

Shawn maintained his polished, refined demeanor as he gave her two options. "Do you want to call him now or later?"

Tara shook her head frantically, trying to stay calm and stall for time. "Can you give me two days to think it over? Even if I were to break up with him, I need time to mentally prepare myself."
