With the break of dawn came the end of the night's stillness and gloom.
Shawn woke up in a manor at the center of Sorrentia. The beautiful woman he was holding in his arms, as if she were a precious treasure, felt utterly unfamiliar.
He frowned, his usually gentle expression turning cold and grim. The memories of last night were gone—not a single trace was left behind.
He lifted a hand to brush her hair aside. When he saw her stunning face, his gaze grew even colder.
The woman in his arms was a live-in housekeeper recently hired for the villa. Although she hadn't been there long, she had already started acting inappropriately, speaking and behaving in a way that hinted at seduction.
Shawn's expression darkened. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't recall a thing from last night. It was as if his memories had been wiped clean.
After putting on his gold-rimmed glasses, he got out of bed and slipped on a bathrobe. He then walked slowly to the walk-in closet. Just as he approached the wardrobe, he suddenly stopped and looked toward the opposite wall, where a door had appeared without him even noticing.
Shawn walked up to the door and turned the handle. It opened to reveal another walk-in closet. But when was this closet added? He had no memory of it at all.
He randomly opened one of the wardrobes inside, and it was filled with women's clothing. In the center stood a large jewelry cabinet, packed with various women's accessories. The clothes and jewelry were all brand new and untouched.
Shawn silently pushed up his glasses as a flicker of confusion passed through his eyes.
Ten minutes later, he walked out of the closet. While he was buttoning his shirt, his gaze landed on the sleeping woman on his bed.
Tara was jolted awake by a sharp, piercing beep in her mind.
"Memory deletion failed."
Her whole body ached as she opened her eyes to an unfamiliar ceiling. What did it mean—memory deletion failed? She slowly looked to the left, then to the right. What was that sound just now?
